Here is a countdown from 50 years ago--October 16, 1971 from Record World magazine. While there are no unique songs in the show, listen carefully to see what songs reached the top spot in RW that didn't make it to #1 in Billboard (and consequently on AT40). archive.org/details/rwc-1971101601 Great song this week at #1, Joe! And by "great" I mean, well... Anyway, it's so cool to hear this new show with so many good songs.

I actually bought the 45 of the #1 song--and recall the very first AT40 show I ever heard had a story where Casey explained the unique sound heard on that record.

I almost uploaded a Cash Box Countdown this week end but chose to upload this one from Record World Magazine from the November 14, 1970 issue. Most of us know that AT40 played So Close by Jake Holmes by mistake in a program from December 1970--but that song did make the Top 40 in both CB & RW. There are three other songs on the countdown that never made it to the Top 40 in Billboard and several big droppers, as well. In addition, as Pete pointed out in his book, three artists on the survey with the same last name (Taylor) that are not related. archive.org/details/rwc-1970111401

Just posted a countdown from December 8, 1973 from Record World magazine. The song at #1 reached the top spot in Cash Box, Record World and Radio & Records--but not Billboard. In addition, are a few songs that were never played on AT40 (#39, #36, #33 (during 1973)). Enjoy-- Joe archive.org/details/rwc-1973120801/RWC1973120801.mp3

AT40 only featured Billboard's Top 40 of 1971 but here is a countdown that features the Top 100 of 1971. The chart is based on the peak positions songs reached on the weekly Record World magazine charts. Record World never featured a full Top 100 in the magazine's history, with their year end charts never featuring more than 30 positions in the year end issues. Enjoy the countdown of the Top 100 songs from 50 years ago.... archive.org/details/rwc-197101/RWC197101.mp3
