Y I have done a calendar year ranking using AT40's 1982 methodology, which I think yielded better results, but these rankings will provide an alternate look at each year's biggest hits. Had you posted this set of rankings already and I missed it, or not yet? The rankings I am posting this time are based on a methodology I developed to estimate BB's year end ranking for 1987 through 1991. It is explained at the beginning of this thread. On another tread I posed year end rankings using AT40's 1982 methodology. I will bump up that tread in General Music Discussion.

Moving into the 70s. I already posted at the beginning of this thread, countdowns using this methodology with a December through November survey period for 1970 though 1986. What I will post now will be for the calendar year, with records credited for their full chart runs. For 1970, records peaking from 1/3/70 though 12/26/70 are eligible.

Here is 1976. The eligibility period is 1/3/76 through 12/25/76. Since this is the first year the frozen week occurred, I averaged the position before and after the frozen week to credit the frozen week. Rod Stewart comes out on top. Interestingly, BB's #100 song for 1976 is also #100 on this ranking.

"Still" beat out "Bad Girls." That's a surprise.

"Still" beat out "Bad Girls." That's a surprise. I went back and rechecked the 1979 rankings and "Still" did not beat out "Bad Girl". I am correcting my post to correct "Still"'s points. It did not seem unusual as "Still was in the top 10 13 weeks and "Bad Girls" just 10.
