At the very least, the music media needs to stop celebrating when "amazing" new records are set on the Hot 100. These record-setting feats are only possible due to radically new rules as to what is allowed to chart. Some no-talent rapper has now had more hits than Elvis? Maybe, but only because Billboard didn't allow literally every song Elvis recorded to chart...

In the last 3 weeks, issues dated 05/14, 05/21, and 05/28/22, 14 songs have moved into the Top 10 for the first time. Here are some more details:
05/14/22 - 4 - Future (4) 05/21/22 - 5 - Bad Bunny (4), Lizzo (1) 05/28/22 - 5 - Kendrick Lamar (4), Morgan Wallen (1)
I wonder if there have ever been 14 new Top 10 songs in a 3-week period before?

Fueled by streaming due to its inclusion in the latest season of Stranger Things, Kate Bush's 1985 song "Running Up That Hill" is set to re-enter the Hot 100 inside the Top 10, possibly inside the Top 5, outdoing its original #30 peak.

With all the media blitz over this, you'd think there was a campaign to basically make it #1 or something. ETA: Lo and behold, there IS such a campaign: Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ Reserviced to Radio Amid ‘Stranger Things’ Buzz (Unfortunately it's a Pro article which puts it behind the subscriber wall, but just the headline says enough to show that it's being fully re-released.)

There's a way to get around the subscriber wall if you're familiar with your browser's developer tools. From the article:

We had an alternative station here that is no longer which played a cover version of "Running Up That Hill" regularly. Meg Myers recorded it in 2019 and reached #1 alternative with it. Was glad to see that song getting more exposure. And now that the original is getting exposure itself, it is even better.

From the article: I know a relatively un-sophisticated way to get around Billboard's Pro-wall in particular - but it didn't seem like posting the whole thing here was the thing to do. And all the additional details really do is just further drive home the exact same point that the headline makes all by itself.

"Running Up That Hill" hits a new peak on the Hot 100 this week, up to #4. It is also the most "Shazamed" song of the week, as Ryan Seacrest says on this weekend's AT40 in which he plays a piece of it.

Don't know if it's a record, but Beyonce debuted on the Hot 100 on 8-13-22 with 15 songs. The only artist to have more than 15 songs debut in the same week, possibly could have been Taylor Swift?

Drake has passed the Beatles as the artist who has had the most hits reach the Top 5 on the Hot 100. The Beatles had 29 hits do that between 1964 - 1970 while Drake had his 30th hit (Staying Alive where he is featured on this hit by DJ Khaled, also featuring Lil Baby). The Beatles had been #1 for 55 years.

Maybe, but only because Billboard didn't allow literally every song Elvis recorded to chart... I don't know what is worse, this post or the two people that actually gave it a thumbs up. Just because you might not appreciate a "no-talent rapper" doesn't mean talent is totally absent. The real issue is songs don't have to be singles anymore to chart. A trendy artist can put out a new album, their fans stream it to death for a week or two causing the tracks to race up the chart and drop even faster. Is that really broad, wide spread popularly deserving of being reflected on a national survey? Or a fluke that takes advantage of the rules where you don't need a significant spins or sales to chart. At least the Gleesters had to pay to download those songs, after being performed on the show, for them to chart for a week or two. The current batch doesn't even have to meet that low standard.
