At the very least, the music media needs to stop celebrating when "amazing" new records are set on the Hot 100. These record-setting feats are only possible due to radically new rules as to what is allowed to chart. Some no-talent rapper has now had more hits than Elvis? Maybe, but only because Billboard didn't allow literally every song Elvis recorded to chart... I don't know what is worse, this post or the two people that actually gave it a thumbs up. Just because you might not appreciate a "no-talent rapper" doesn't mean talent is totally absent. The real issue is songs don't have to be singles anymore to chart. A trendy artist can put out a new album, their fans stream it to death for a week or two causing the tracks to race up the chart and drop even faster. Is that really broad, wide spread popularly deserving of being reflected on a national survey? Or a fluke that takes advantage of the rules where you don't need a significant spins or sales to chart. At least the Gleesters had to pay to download those songs, after being performed on the show, for them to chart for a week or two. The current batch doesn't even have to meet that low standard. To defend my "thumbs up", I was not including the "no talent rapper" comment. Relax.

Yep, find that "shhhhhtraw" and "shhhhtir" that Hot 100 drink. I'm not buying. I don't know what is worse, this post or the two people that actually gave it a thumbs up. Just because you might not appreciate a "no-talent rapper" doesn't mean talent is totally absent. If this board had a 👎 option... Drake has talent, I'll give him that. I even like some of his songs. But aside from that, the Hot 100 is not what it was, even you acknowledge that...and personally, I agree with Michael1973's post. While records are made to be broken, we really can't compare Drake and Elvis, not fairly. I think many of us on here know where each of us stands with the Hot 100; and no one should have to apologize for their stance. We can just agree to disagree on this.

I'm not sure why Billboard still has it listed as the Hot 100. We all know the new name is really the Drake 100. Lol.

Drake has passed the Beatles as the artist who has had the most hits reach the Top 5 on the Hot 100. The Beatles had 29 hits do that between 1964 - 1970 while Drake had his 30th hit (Staying Alive where he is featured on this hit by DJ Khaled, also featuring Lil Baby). The Beatles had been #1 for 55 years. I was trying to ascertain about the Hot 100 entries. Was there a week ever where more than 15 songs debuted (not seasonal or reentries) by the same artist, in this case Beyonce, in the Hot 100? I do love Beyonce and hope that this wasn't a "Drake" record in previous charts.

My reference book only goes through 2018. The most I found was 22 new entries by Drake on 07/14/2018. I like pointing out some of these new records comparing the "old" days to the current stuff. Apples and oranges are definitely being compared here. I do like the title of this thread: Hell is freezing over on the Hot 100. My opinion is more that some of these new records are to be laughed at, not get upset about. Lighten up, everybody.

Here's a new record: Harry Styles' "As It Was" returns to #1 on the Hot 100 this week (ending September 3) for the fifth time, more than any song ever. It's been there for 11 weeks, the first of which was in mid-April. Incidentally, on American Top 40, it was #1 for six consecutive weeks and (as of the August 27 chart) has been continuously in the top 5 since May. www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/harry-styles-11th-week-number-one-hot-100-1235132570/

"Heat Waves" just surpassed "Blinding Lights" for the most weeks on the Hot 100, 91. I am listening to the 1980 countdown now, and it is like a song entering the 10/18/80 chart and still being there circa July 1982. Maybe that Glass Animals song could make it to two years. A new entry could still be on the Hot 100 in mid-2024. Yikes!

My opinion is more that some of these new records are to be laughed at, not get upset about. Lighten up, everybody. I received a Chartbeat Billboard Bulletin today that helped clarify this matter some. Lil Baby recently released an "album" that has 20 debuts so he has 25 songs on the chart dated 10/29/2022. All 23 songs on the "album" are on the Hot 100 this week. 25 songs on a Hot 100 chart places Lil Baby in 3rd place all-time. Drake had 27** songs on the Hot 100 on 07/14/2018 and Taylor Swift had 26 songs on 11/27/2021. All-time career leaders on the Hot 100 are 1.) Drake 278 - 2.) Glee Cast 207 - 3.) Lil Wayne 183 - 4.) Taylor Swift 168 (she is sure to jump higher next week) - 5.) Future 152 - 6.) Kanye West 141 - 7.) Lil Baby 131 - 8.) Nicki Minaj 125 - 9.) Chris Brown 113. Most entries in a calendar year are 80 by Glee Cast. For a single artist the record is 46 by Lil Uzi Vert. Pre-1990 leaders include Elvis Presley with 166, James Brown with 107, and the Beatles with 75. (Not necessarily the Top 3 and these numbers do include songs that were at rank #101 or lower). For all you Lil Baby fans out there, you might want to get a copy of the 10/29/2022 Billboard. I think I will pass on that. ** Drake had 22 debuts on the Hot 100 on 07/14/2018 but he had 5 non-debuts to reach the total of 27.

This week's top 10 is all Taylor Swift songs thanks to the release of "Midnights". Congratulations to Taylor. I thought the Beatles record of holding the entire Top 5 in April of 1964 probably wasn't going to last much longer.

This week's top 10 is all Taylor Swift songs thanks to the release of "Midnights". This is one of many reasons why Billboard should either (a) revive the short-lived Pop 100 chart of the mid-2000s and limit it to singles and focus tracks, or (b0 Make the Hot 100 a single/focus-track-only chart to ensure more artist diversity. It should be called the Drake 100, Swift 100, Lil Baby (whoever that is--probably some shallow rapper) 100.
