This weeks show was great!!! Enjoyed hearing two Jerry Reed songs... I'm a big fan, but don't think of him as being played on Pop radio... but back then EVERYTHING was played on Pop radio... that's why we love it I guess. Thanks for all your work Joe... and I love this station!!! :-)

It's time to go back to August 18, 1979 for the hits from Cash Box Magazine. It's a transition time from disco/dance to rock. You'll hear some of both on this countdown. Be sure to check it out. Monday at 9 am or 9 pm and Sunday at 11 am (Eastern time). Enjoy.

Oh yeah, by the way, I am working on a show that will run on Halloween (from the 1960's); if you have a 'spooky' favorite that I can run as some 'bonus' songs on the countdown--let me know.
Thanks,
Joe

The Countdown for this week is from October 3, 1970 from Cash Box Magazine. It features the only number one for a band that never hit #1 in Billboard and the third hour starts off with a song that I bet hasn't been heard since it was on the charts in 1970. The show airs at 9 (am/pm) Monday or you can catch it at 8 Sunday morning. wbme.radiostream123.com/Enjoy.

You are correct. Lookin' Out My Back Door made it to #1 on both Cash Box and Record World--some lady wouldn't move off the mountain in Billboard to give CCR a #1 there. By the way, by not listening to the show you missed the song that opened hour #3 (at #13) that I'm sure you haven't heard in over 40 years.

Bullseye--you got it. I don't recall hearing that song that often on the radio back in 1970--I'll bet it was a big seller but didn't get much airplay.

"Rubber Duckie" was played quite often on the station I listened to then. I always thought it was the 8 to 13 year olds who liked the song, not kids my age - I was a junior in high school then. Sales were probably driven by Moms who had 8 year olds who didn't like to take their baths. Casey mentioned once that sales of rubber duckies really jumped when that song was popular in the fall of 1970.

I do recall having a brother who is 5 years younger than me telling me all about this new show 'Sesame Street' and I would occasionally watch the show when I came home from school (although the show was in black & white when it was rerun on our local PBS station). The only real memory I had of the song was when it was run on Sesame Street--even though I listened to my transistor radio so much my parents thought it was glued to me head. Ahh, those were the days. Joe

The Countdown to be aired on Monday, October 9th, at 9 am or 9 pm, is from October 14,1967. It features a number one that did not reach the top spot in Billboard and the song at #31 is by a one hit wonder out of Memphis. The show also airs Sunday, October 16th (Sunday) at 8 am on WBME. Enjoy, Joe wbme.radiostream123.com/
