I don’t think Big Mama Thornton hit the top 40 before Elvis did with “Hound Dog.”

Speaking of Russell, he co-wrote "Superstar," originally recorded by Delaney & Bonnie and later made famous by the Carpenters' hit version.

I thought Larry Morgan mentioned this for the Cyndi Lauper "All Through the Night" OPTIONAL EXTRA on the 10/6/1984 AT40: The 80's show.

Wikipedia says the Cars covered it, but did not use it on any of their albums.

Wikipedia says the Cars covered it, but did not use it on any of their albums. Either way, it's first appearance was on Shear's album.

“Don’t Know Much” by Linda Ronstadt f/ Aaron Neville Good one - on this week's 1989 Rick Dees show, he played a clip of the Bette Midler version, which was called "All I Need To Know".

Also in the 2003 show, there was "Have A Little Faith In Me" by Mandy Moore, which was originally by John Hiatt from the '80s.

A little tough to piece the exact timeline together from Wikipedia, but "After the Love Has Gone" was written by David Foster, Jay Graydon, and Bill Champlin, then recorded by Airplay (Foster and Graydon). Earth, Wind, and Fire, recorded it later, but released before the original came out on the one and only Airplay album.

Barbra Striesand's rendition of "Memory" from the Broadway Musical "Cats" didn't reach the top 40 in 1982, but Barry Manilow's version of "Memory" did in 1983.

Ironically, Bill Champlin and David Foster would go onto work for another horn based rock band beginning with Chicago 16 in 1982!
