Hooked On Classics and "656731"

In the spring of 1982, there was no trace of backtiming, at least in the Austrian radio hit parade. While #1 was played a second time at the end of 1981 if the program ended too early, from spring 1982 onwards the decision was made to use "Hooked On Classics" (an LDD in the 8/17/85 show) as an instrumental piece as a musical bridge to the beginning of the news.
The form of the radio hit parade at the time also included the Viennese telephone number 656731, which listeners could use to announce their ratings.
"656731" - this telephone number was remembered by an entire generation

"656731" contains the digits 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7, which is why there are two "13567" editions this week:

Time for a French extra: Rose Laurens

Rose Laurens had previously worked on "Les Miserables" in Paris, during which time she worked on the album "Deraisonnable". The first single release "Africa" was a huge hit in France in 1982. This great success led to an international release in 1983.
Elaine Stive was asked to write an English version of the lyrics. The song uses many cliches and would certainly no longer be written in this form today. Simplifying that voodoo is spread across the whole continent or that people dance barefoot in the deep jungle everywhere is unthinkable today. Elaine Stive kept the text very close to the French original, even taking the line about the "white woman" on the "black continent" from the original by Jean-Pierre Goussaud, Rose Laurens´ partner at the time. Rose Laurens died in April 2018.

Live is life

After four record-breaking concerts for 250,000 fans, Coldplay are now saying goodbye to their "second home Vienna" Also with emotional Instagram photos. "Thank you for this wonderful time in Austria." With flawless German at their last performance and an Instagram photo from the Happel Stadium with the lines "Pfiat euch Wien." (Good luck Vienna), Coldplay bid farewell to Austria after four record-breaking concerts. Between Wednesday (8/21/24) and Sunday (8/25/24), the hearts of over 250,000 fans and the social institutions "Die Tafel" and "Vinzi Rast", which were supported with generous donations and ticket raffles, were lifted. In addition, Chris Martin even met with local indie artists such as Ankathie Koi to exchange ideas. As an emotional highlight of every show, Chris Martin even sang a different Taylor Swift tribute every evening in "our second home Vienna" between 100-million-selling anthems such as "Fix You", "Yellow" or "A Sky Full Of Stars": "Love Story", "Shake It Off", sometimes as a medley with "The Scientist", sometimes as an XL unplugged version and then even "The 1" for the finale. "We are so sorry that the Taylor Swift concerts were canceled, but we are so happy that we are allowed to play here."

An absolutely catchy tune, composed by Toto Cutugno, who died in Milan on 8/22/23, and written by Pierre Delanoe. The sad lyrics are a stark contrast to the melody. In terms of content, it sings of a divorce drama in which a single father of an 18-month-old child (Nicolas) conjures up the return of his ex.

The red carpet has been rolled out

The lagoon glistens, paparazzi lurk on the Lido, cineastes are in premiere fever: the red carpet is being rolled out on the picturesque Venice lagoon so that the big stars of the art of film can present their movies.

The 81st Venice Film Festival takes place this year from 8/28 to 9/7 - and this year the stars from Hollywood are once again hoping to win a Golden Lion. In 2023, Hollywood actors were still absent because they went on strike for higher wages and rules for the use of artificial intelligence in the film industry. This time, the film festival shines with a high celebrity density: Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga, Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, among others. Two people are already certain to receive the Golden Lion as a lifetime achievement award: Australian director Peter Weir (including "Picnic on Valentine´s Day" and "Dead Poets' Society") and US actress Sigourney Weaver ("Alien").

Glitz, glamor and great art are particularly guaranteed this year - and a look at which films could score points at the Oscars when the jury finally announces which of the 21 nominated films will win the "Golden Lion".

Raymond Lefevre was a French orchestra conductor and composer.

With a conservatory degree in piano and flute, Lefevre became known for his numerous film scores for films by Louis de Funes between 1964 and 1982. He also made a name for himself as an orchestra conductor. Raymond Lefevre began his career as a pianist in the orchestras of Franck Pourcel and Paul Mauriat. He himself mainly played "easy listening", but also instrumental versions of film themes and modernized classical melodies.

10 Years of Vienna Coffee Festival



From 9/6/24 to 9/8/24, Vienna´s Marx Halle will host the tenth anniversary of the Vienna Coffee Festival. The festival takes you on a journey of discovery through the world of coffee. At this unique location, the focus is on perfect preparation and sampling exceptional varieties and roasts – all accompanied by good food, drink and music.

The city of coffee house culture has long revolved around drinking coffee. The quality of coffee has skyrocketed over the last two decades thanks to the emergence of new coffee shops. Visitors from all over Europe can see this for themselves at the Vienna Coffee Festival. The event offers information, tasting and sampling, with a focus on conscious and sustainable coffee enjoyment. From premium green coffee specialties for you to taste to the various coffee roasting processes, to machines, grinders and accessories, producers and retailers will be showcasing the variety that the coffee world has to offer.

Professional baristas will prepare espresso, filter coffee or cold brew using various methods and impress with their creative milk foam decorations. Visitors can inform themselves about filter holders, fully automatic coffee machines, AeroPress or pour-over methods.

Time for an extra: Sergio Mendes

Brazilian musician Sergio Mendes scored a worldwide hit with his version of "Mas Que Nada". He has now died in Los Angeles at the age of 83, as his family announced in a statement.

Born on 2/11/1941 in Niteroi in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, Sergio began his musical career with a classical piano education. His father, a doctor, had actually planned a career in medicine for his son Sergio. In the 1950s, however, Sergio Mendes began his career in music bars.

He played with his trio in the "Bottles Bar" in Copacabana, which, together with other clubs in the Beco das Garrafas alley, is considered the cradle of bossa nova. He later had the group "Bossa Rio Sextet". His interest in jazz began early on. "Jazz was and is very important to me," said Mendes, also because jazz opened the doors of Musica Popular Brasileira to the world. He became one of the most important representatives of samba jazz.

Sergio Mendes was awarded three Grammys and was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for the song "Real in Rio", part of the soundtrack to the animated film "Rio". He continued to perform to sold-out concert halls in cities such as Paris, London and Barcelona until November last year, according to the family's statement on his death.

When the military came to power in Brazil in 1964, he managed to leave the country. Soldiers had also invaded his apartment. Sergio found his new home in Los Angeles, where he lived for around 60 years.
