FalcoVereinigte Bühnen Wien is once again bringing the story of
Falco to the stage. "Rock Me Amadeus" is the name of the new musical. Director Andreas Gergen stages the Mozart punk as "shy, sensitive, and a thinker."
The musical traces the pop artist´s rise and fall, from young musician to world star, and of course it all begins in Vienna´s U4 in the 1980s. Three teenagers appear on stage in bell-bottom jeans and leather jackets. One of them is the young Hans Hölzel, who wants to start a solo career, while the hit "The Sound of Musik" can be heard. While the big hits won't be missing, "we didn´t want a compilation show," says artistic director and author Christian Struppeck, who worked closely with the Falco Private Foundation and managers Markus Spiegel and Horst Bork. There will also be four new songs written by Falco's producers Bolland & Bolland. One of the songs is the power ballad "Leb deinen Traum" ("Live Your Dream"), sung by Katharina Gorgi, who plays Falco´s wife Isabella in the piece.
The falcon´s disjointedness is also reflected in the Ronacher´s stage design, where one can admire a sea of mirrors bathed in blue with glowing LED edges. At one point, a
Falco head about seven meters high is pushed into the space. A "big psychological space" was the idea behind it, Gergen says. "Our stage is a space of reflection," the director says. "On the other hand, it´s also like a microscope, under which the figure of Hans Hölzel is placed, taken apart by us into different parts, to really examine who this guy was," the German emphasizes: "Namely, shy, sensitive, and a thinker."
This is not the first time that the music of the artist, who died in 1998, has provided the soundtrack for a musical. Already in 2000, both the high-tech stage spectacle "F@lco - A Cyber Show" directed by Paulus Manker at the Ronacher, and Elmar Ottenthal´s "Falco meets Amadeus" premiered in Berlin.
One of his greatest hits, remembered by the students of 1982, is "Nie mehr Schule" ("No more school").
The video shows the original text, as an introduction I have added a translation - hopefully "supporting the feeling":
It is written
And it´s true:
Yes, the stupid ones live themselves to death
Only with a brain can you escape that, yeah, yeah
Do you want father´s praise, his car, and gas for it, too ?
Then pay attention in school !
For example
Gretchen Green
Always took careful notes
And Mr. Senior Councillor
Quickly had his advice ready
And said, ´Do you want to be competent
And grades without nuts ?
Only this kind of practice will keep you fit.´
And he had his slide With him
No thank you !
No more school
No school anymore
´Cause your beard, Mr. Educational Councillor
ls not too smart for me, yeah, yeah !´
No more school
No school anymore
´Cause the fact is known
Too much school makes you sick !
Yeah, yeah !´
Monday morning
Jonas Meier has the courage
To recognize that responsibility
Had entered his life, and said
´You have the choice,
Do you want blessings or agony ?
Don´t annoy your teachers !´
...but then,
In the last hour
The customer makes his rounds
lt was time again,
Jonas is ready to act
His Dolby two-way super stereo is hanging from the net
And what does the whole class hear now,
So that it´s blasting through the halls ?
They hear:
No more school
No school anymore
´Cause our life is in fact
Hard because of your grades
Yeah, yeah !´
No more school
No school anymore
´And Ms. Educational Councillor
You are twice as unusual
Yeah, yeah !´
No more school
No school anymore
´Cause the fact is known
Too much school makes you sick !´
No more school
No school anymore
´Cause our life is in fact
Hard because of your grades
Yeah, yeah !´
No more school
No school anymore
