ESA Reserve Astronaut
Austrian medical scientist Carmen Possnig, born in Klagenfurt in 1988, is to become a reserve astronaut for the European Space Agency (ESA). Almost exactly five years ago, Possnig already started a one-year stay in Antarctica on behalf of ESA. At that time, the general practitioner researched the effects of isolation and low oxygen levels on the crew at the "Concordia" Antarctic station. Even then, she was not averse to a trip into space in an interview: "But not along the lines of 'We´ll go to Mars and stay there for life'. But if they pick me up again in five years, that would be okay," Possnig said immediately before her Antarctic adventure. Now the Carinthian has actually made it into the next training cohort for European astronauts. She thus has the chance to become the first Austrian woman to fly into space. In 1991, Franz Viehböck, the only Austrian to date, completed a space mission as part of the then "Austromir" mission.
The songs of the following edition should also be known worldwide:

Time for an extra: UB40
UB40 formed in 1978, and two years later the band signed a record deal with an indie label and scored a Top 10 hit in their native England with their first single, "King". With their 11th single, a cover version of Neil Diamond´s "Red Red Wine," the band finally gained worldwide attention in 1983.
The original "Kingston Town" was written by Lord Creator aka Kendrick Patrick in 1970, who bought a small cottage in Jamaica for the additional royalties.

5/12/81:
Chilliwack - My Girl Diana Ross - Why Do Fools Fall In Love ELO - Twilight Mike Post - Theme From Hillstreet BluesThe Go Go´s - Our Lips Are Sealed Happy Birthday (part 1)He´s 1.11 meters tall, wears top hats, and if he´s not the richest man on earth, he´s at least the wealthiest duck: Scrooge McDuck celebrates his 75th birthday in December. Although this is a "falsification of history," as comic artist Jan Gulbransson points out. Because Uncle Scrooge creator Carl Barks already had him celebrate this round birthday in comics in the 1950s. However, Scrooge McDuck made his debut at Christmas 1947. The great "Duck Man" Barks, for many fans the best draftsman and copywriter of all time of Donald and Co., had his creation appear for the first time in the comic "Christmas On Bear Mountain" in 1947. The character was based on the miser Ebenezer Scrooge from the "Christmas Story" by Charles Dickens, the Mc before the Duck in the original alluded to the cliche of the thrifty Scotsman. At first Scrooge remained a minor character, a stingy misanthrope and unscrupulous big capitalist. In 1952, Barks made the duck, who bases his wealth on a lucky ten and regularly takes a thaler bath in the money bin, the main character for the first time in "The Poor Rich Man". In 1953, Uncle Scrooge got his own series of booklets and increasingly turned from an old creep into a quirky uncle who, as a money-loving big businessman, also had friendly sides and had exotic adventures with Donald and Tick, Trick and Track. Barks expanded the biography of his creation in that his comics sometimes contained flashbacks to Scrooge´s life or alluded to his younger years. Referring to these stories, comic artist and copywriter Don Rosa, American like Barks, produced a multi-part biography of Scrooge McDuck. According to it, Scrooge was born in 1867 into impoverished Scottish nobility and emigrated to America at the age of 13. In Klond**e he earned his first million in the gold rush and moved to Duckburg. "The key to Scrooge´s success is certainly cunning, resourcefulness, ambition is perhaps not quite the right word. So it´s possessiveness," says Gulbrannsson. Who also explains that Scrooge is easier to draw than Donald: "Simply because of all the accessories, because he has a pincher, glasses, and because he has a whisker" - and behind that, drawing mistakes "might be hidden." The last words (according to Barks) belong to the jubilarian: "I became rich because I was tougher than the toughest and smarter than the smartest ! And I have remained an honest man in the process!"
And here´s my "celebration"-edition for this week:
5/12/81:Earth, Wind & Fire - Let´s Groove Olivia Newton John - Physical Royal Philharmonic Orchestra - Hooked On Classics The J. Geils Band - Centerfold The Rolling Stones - Start Me Up Time for an extra: Ralph McTellThis week´s extra also features a birthday boy - Ralph McTell celebrates his 78th birthday on 12/3/2022. Ralph first released his hit "Streets Of London" in 1969 on his 2nd album " Spiral Staircase". He recorded the original version with guitar only. It did not become a hit. With each change to a different record company, he recorded "Streets Of London" again, because all A&R managers had always fallen in love with this folk song. The arrangements became more and more elaborate, but it wasn´t until the 3rd attempt that it really became a success. And that too only via decidedly unusual detours. In 1971 Ralph McTell changed to the record label Famous. There he recorded the album "You Well Meaning Brought Me Here". It was also released in the United States, where it was simply called "You". In addition, they replaced one of the songs with the classic that no one knew in the United States, "Streets Of London". But even this renewed attempt to make such a beautiful song a hit failed. At the same time, the Dutch singer-songwriter Herman van Veen discovered his British colleague Ralph McTell and in 1970 covered his song "Girl On a Bicycle", which like "Streets Of London" was on the 1969 album " Spiral Staircase", in Dutch. In his case, the song was called "Fiets". However, it took another change of record company and another re-recording of the song for the song about the streets of its capital city to attract interest in Great Britain. Strictly speaking, it is not the ordinary people in the streets of London that Ralph McTell sings about, because the singer-songwriter wrote it during his creative phase as a street musician throughout Europe. He allegedly made a first version in Paris. The fact that there was already a song called "Poor People Of Paris" led to the plan to transplant the observed people in his homeland. London, with its narrow streets and small alleys, which to this day are a nightmare for out-of-town deliverymen, just lends itself to having the people observed there. There where the streets and alleys at some point in gray prehistory seemingly without any concept simply lined up that they form a unique maze. Suddenly the radio and television stations saw it that way in 1974. This version, no one knows exactly how many, which he recorded for his new record company, fell on open ears. Not only with the stations, but especially with the listeners. Up to 90,000 copies were sold after the first big TV appearance of Ralph McTell´s hit with a five-year delay or let's call it a better run-up. In any case, the song was #2 in the British charts at the end of 1974. from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

"Spies Like Us" may be Macca's best 80s hit. I remember thinking, "He's FINALLY rocking again!" when it came out.
But now, it's a lost gem for sure. I never hear it anymore (except on my iPod).
