"We're counting down to the latest hit by an English group, whose leader say he hates working with the classical musicians who give the group their distinctive hit sound, ironically, their first hit was Roll Over Beethoven, details and their latest hit are coming up, the hits from Coast-to-Coast, American Top 40, well now the current hit by the English group who several years ago became the first rock group to include symphony musicians in their regular lineup, but whose leader says he actually hates working with the classical musicians who give the group their sound, I'm talking about The Electric Light Orchestra, and here's the way the leader and chief songwriter Jeff Lynne explains their dilemma, he says, that when the band first got together in England hoping to create a brand new sound, they began by hiring classical string players to work on their sessions, but Jeff says, those hired hands, all English session players, were more concerned with their hourly wage than the music they were making, and he says, it took 4 long years before they finally found 3 symphony musicians who fit in with the sound and the goals of The Electric Light Orchestra, as soon as they did, they made them permanent members of the group, but their problems were far from over, because when the group went into the studio to record their Eldorado album which features a big lush orchestral sound, they had to hire, you guessed it, 30 classical string players, and here's the way Jeff Lynne remembers that session, he says, I never saw anything like it, it's terrible dealing with classical musicians, they only play by the hour, and on one track of Eldorado you hear the double basses, putting their basses away while we're still playing because they were overtime, end of quote, well fortunately ELO is very happy with their own string players, cellists, Hugh McDowell, and Melvyn Gale, and violinist, Mik Kaminski, currently they're at #17 for the 2nd week with their latest hit, here's, ELO, and, Sweet Talkin' Woman..."

A new race track
A new race weekend and a new race track: After the European season opener in Imola, Formula 1 moves to another continent again for the 5th race of the season. In the USA, the Miami Grand Prix is on the agenda. This is the first time Formula 1 has pitched its tents in Miami. The city in southern Florida is the 11th venue for a Formula 1 race in the United States. No other country has hosted more. Among the drivers, the anticipation of their stay and the atmosphere in Miami is huge. "Everything is coming together perfectly. I wish I was just a fan here, but unfortunately I have to drive myself," said Red Bull driver Sergio Perez. Superstar Lewis Hamilton said, "In terms of passion for the sport, there´s always been quite a gap between the U.S. and the rest of the world. It´s nice to see the love for this sport growing in the U.S." Three drag reduction system (DRS) zones are expected to provide spectacle and plenty of overtaking maneuvers on the new track. The longest straight at Miami International Autodrome is 1.28 kilometers long. According to calculations, the cars will reach top speeds of 320 km/h. With a lap distance of 5.412 kilometers, the street circuit in Miami is one of the longer circuits on the racing calendar. At the premiere, the drivers will have to complete 57 laps - or just under 310 kilometers - around Hard Rock Stadium, home to the Miami Dolphins football team.
So, here are my current "sports"-editions:
5/10/80 (A):
Blondie - Call Me Christopher Cross - Ride Like The Wind Gary Numan - Cars Lipps, Inc. - Funkytown The Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
5/10/86 (B):
Nu Shooz - I Can´t Wait Sly Fox - Let´s Go All The Way The Jets - Crush On You Van Halen - Why Can´t This Be Love ZZ Top - Rough Boy
Time for an extra: Arlo Guthrie
"City Of New Orleans" was composed by the Chicago singer-songwriter Steve Goodman in 1970. Goodman wrote the lyrics on a sketch pad after his wife fell asleep on the Illinois Central train, where they were going to visit his wife´s grandmother. Goodman wrote about what he saw looking out the windows of the train and playing cards in the club car. Everything in the song actually happened on the ride. After he returned home, Goodman heard that the train was scheduled to be decommissioned due to lack of passengers. He was encouraged to use this song to save the train, so he retouched the lyrics and released it on his first album in 1971. Steve Goodman released his version as a single in 1972, but it was Arlo Guthrie´s cover that same year that popularized the song and brought attention to rail lines that were vanishing across middle America. Many people who lived in rural areas relied on them to travel.

5/19/84:Billy Idol - Eyes Without A FaceRick Springfield - Love Somebody The Go-Go´s - Head Over Heels Tracey Ullman - They Don´t Know Van Stephenson - Modern Day Delilah Platform 9This year, one of the most famous landmarks of the Austrian capital celebrates its 125th birthday: the Ferris wheel. To mark this special anniversary, the Prater institution is coming up with a spectacular new attraction: The " Platform 9" - a glass, moving viewing platform. Because the " Platform 9", whose name comes from its position on the Giant Ferris Wheel, is an attraction that is so far unique in the world in this form. It´s a glass viewing platform that, like the carriages, is attached to the Ferris wheel and offers its "passengers" a unique view of Vienna - except that the platform has no walls, windows or doors, let alone a roof. And " Platform 9" itself is also virtually "invisible" - after all, the five-centimeter "thick" glass plate is safety glass of the transparent variety, which means that the perfect view is always guaranteed, even when looking down. But don´t worry: No matter how brave you are, you are not completely unsafe on the glass neo-attraction: Platform 9 may only be entered with a professionally worn body harness and accompanied by a specially trained guide, and only in suitable weather conditions: It remains closed in the event of rain, snow or excessive wind. Well, here's my " kick"-edition: 5/19/84:Duran Duran - The Reflex Madonna - Borderline Slade - Run, Runaway The Cars - You Might Think Tony Carey - A Fine Fine Day Time for an extra: HelloRuss Ballard, a songwriter who until 1974 was the guitarist in the band Argent. He wrote the bones of the song on a plane while flying to New York City to work on a Roger Daltrey solo album - Russ hadn´t been to the city in a while and was getting "back in the New York Groove." He had written a song called "You Move Me" for the English band Hello, and when he returned to the UK, their manager asked for another song. Russ gave them "New York Groove," which they released in 1975. He talked about how the song come together in an interview with Classic Rock magazine: "I wanted to do a Bo Diddley beat because I thought that sort of sound hadn´t been heard for a long time, so I got some maracas and a harmonica, and I started off with this 'cha-ch-ch-cha-chcha-cha' rhythm. I got the members of Hello to stand on some trestle tables with their platform boots on and they all stomped along. I had the chorus - 'I´m back, back in the New York groove' - and I wrote the rest of the words in the studio." From 1975 here are Hello with "New York Groove": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.

^ listenerwants2know ... I had no idea "Back In the New York Groove" by Ace Frehley was a remake. Thanks for posting the original! That song was written by Russ Ballard who ended up writing and/or producing some other noteworthy Top 20 songs like "Liar" by Three Dog Night, "Winning" by Santana, "You Can Do Magic" by America, and "I Know There's Something Going On" by Frida. Russ also sang lead on Argent's #4 hit, "Hold Your Head Up". I just channeled my inner mrjukebox there with all of that info ... and now, on with the countdown... My Top 32 songs from the 5/19/84 countdown with 13 absolute faves in bold (of which only 2 hit the Top 10!):Top 10: Hello, Let's Hear It For The Boy, Against All Odds, Time After Time, Love Somebody, Oh Sherrie, You Might Think, Footloose #11-20: Head Over Heels, The Reflex, The Longest Time, The Authority Song, Sister Christian, They Don't Know, Dancing In The Sheets, I'll Wait, Tonight#21-30: The Heart Of Rock & Roll, No More Words, Self-Control, Miss Me Blind, White Horse, Rock You Like A Hurricane, Jump, You Can't Get What You Want#31-40: It's My Life, Run Runaway, A Fine Fine Day, My Ever Changing Moods, Stay The Night, Who's That Girl, Almost Paradise My Top songs from the 5/12/79 countdown with 6 absolute faves in bold:Top 10: Reunited, Heart Of Glass, Hot Stuff, Stumblin' In, In The Navy, Goodnight Tonight, I Want Your Love, He's The Greatest Dancer, Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)#11-20: Love You INside & Out, Love Is The Answer, Love Takes Time, Knock On Wood, Muic Box Dancer, Blow Away, The Logical Song, Disco Nights (Rock Freak)#21-30: Renegade, What A Fool Believes, Rock'N'Roll Fantasy, I Will Survive, We Are Family, Such A Woman #31-40: Old Time Rock'N'Roll, Honesty, If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don't Wanna Be Right) * Style Council and Styx are This Week's Pick Hits. "My Ever Changing Moods" is such a cool pop hit that somehow pop radio didn't embrace that much given its #29 peak... but it gets a lot of airplay on SiriusXM's 1st Wave. Meanwhile, Renegade gets tons of airplay all over classic rock radio even though it peaked at #16. Renegade's intro with just voices and a bass drum is almost haunting... Note: I apologize that this is the third week in a row that I haven't posted my list until Saturday. I'll be late with my lists for two more weeks. Once I get past Memorial Day, I should have my lists posted earlier in the week.

5/21/83:Culture Club - Time (Clock Of The Heart) Prince - Little Red Corvette Ronnie Milsap - Stranger In My House Stephen Bishop - It Might Be YouThe Tubes - She´s A Beauty Hearonymus app
Just like museum tours, the Hearonymus app works like an audio guide. Titled "Sights on the Danube Island," the tour of the island is divided into 14 chapters. The route of the app can be completed in about two hours. The tour starts at the Reichsbrücke bridge or the U1 Danube Island station. The app then takes you along the left bank of the Danube in the direction of Weir 1 and from there back to Floridsdorfer Brücke. However, the audio guide can be listened to anywhere and is not tied to individual stations. At the beginning you learn something about the history of the artificially built Danube Island and its actual function as flood protection. The app also provides information about the flora and fauna, the water quality and the hidden ecological niches. Finally, the bridges are also described, facts about the Danube Island Festival are told and the diverse leisure activities are presented. In April 2022, the app was expanded with two new chapters. These present the measures on the Danube Island with which the EU project "Life Dicca" aims to make a targeted contribution to environmental protection. These include, for example, the use of sheep as environmentally friendly "lawn mowers", the dredging of silted-up Danube bays or new ponds created for amphibians. The chapter "The Climate Gardens" explains how you can help out by observing trees and shrubs on site. And here is a guide to good music from 1983: 5/21/83:David Bowie - Let´s Dance Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue Irene Cara - Flashdance ... What A Feeling Kajagoogoo - Too Shy Time for an extra: Tina TurnerIn this song, Tina recalls her memories of Nutbush, painting a picture of a friendly little town with a strong community. She once said that she didn´t turn any heads in Nutbush, as she was too skinny, and many women there had the goods. Tina Turner didn´t write many songs, but she is the sole composer on this one, which is her biggest hit as a songwriter. It´s also the first song she ever wrote. Following the advice of "write what you know," she put the song together in an attempt to get Ike & Tina Turner back on track; after landing a hit with their cover of "Proud Mary" in 1971, they struggled. "Nutbush City Limits" did the job, giving them another hit in 1973. Marc Bolan played guitar on this track. He was a fan of Ike´s guitar playing and in his teenage years he had had a crush on Tina Turner. from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.
