5/30/87:Chris DeBurgh - The Lady In RedCrowded House - Something So Strong Eddie Money - Endless Nights Herb Alpert - Diamonds Psychedelic Furs - Heartbreak Beat A special show for Ascension of Christ (5/26/2022): 8/13/83 (guest-host: Keri Tombazian):Asia - Don´t Cry Bryan Adams - Cuts Like A Knife Michael Jackson - Human NaturePrince - 1999 Rita Coolidge - All Time HighVintage car meetingFor the first time since 2019, the Gaisberg Race will take place again this weekend. The traditional Old Town Grand Prix kicked off the event on Thursday. More than 100 classic car owners came to Salzburg´s city center with their noble old vehicles. In front of Hellbrunn Palace, the classic cars were made ready for the start of the Old Town Grand Prix on Thursday. The 100 or so cars were all at least four decades old, but are still roadworthy thanks to the care and attention of their owners. Among the vehicles were models built in 1957 with 41 horsepower. But there were also cars that had considerably more horsepower under the hood back then. At noon, the vintage caravan set off from Hellbrunn Palace in the direction of Salzburg's old town. Afterwards the noble car bodies were to be marveled at on the Residenzplatz. Their owners are very reluctant to talk about the exact value of their old companions. "The bandwidth ranges from 20,000 euros to priceless, which are then Preziosen from the pre-war period. There many vehicles cannot be quantified, that is pure lover value", says the founder and organizer of the Old Town Grand Prix, Gert Pierer. Until the weekend, there are still special stages on the Gaisberg and at the Salzburgring on the program. And here are my musical " oldtimer"-editions: 5/30/87:Bob Seger - Shakedown David Bowie - Day-In Day-Out Huey Lewis & The News - I Know What I Like Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam - Head To Toe Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al 8/13/83 (guest-host: Keri Tombazian):David Bowie - China Girl Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue ELO - Rock´n Roll Is King Michael Sembello - Maniac The Human League - (Keep Feeling) Fascination Time for an extra: Jan and DeanRight around the same time that The Beach Boys were releasing hit after hit in the new California surf music vocal style, so were Jan and Dean singing their hearts out in the now-familiar harmonies of "The Little Old Lady (From Pasadena)". The song was written by Jan Berry (one half of the group) and songwriters, Don Altfeld and Roger Christian. It became an instant classic, one that´s been played on the radio ever since. This song regales the listener with the tale of a little old lady who drives a "shiny red Super Stock Dodge" and is "the terror of Colorado Boulevard". The subject, a fast-driving granny with a sports car, was based on the myth of the widowed woman whose husband was sure to leave her some kind of very fast car. Long before the song came out the fictional little old lady was invoked by used car salesmen as a pitch that suggested a car had little wear, having only been driven once a week by an elderly woman. The song paints this mythical widow very differently - as someone who instead really enjoys driving, beats other drivers in drag races, and who, according to Jan and Dean, is "gonna get a ticket now sooner or later". from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.

The large folk festival at the exhibition center with the world´s highest free-fall tower in the amusement park lasts for nine days. Up to 150,000 visitors are expected. The Salzburg Dult is considered the largest folk festival in western Austria. Its rebirth after the CoV lockdowns is a great relief, especially for the showmen who have been hit hard economically, says event manager Michaela Glinz. This year, more than a hundred showmen and market riders will again take part in the folk festival. For the amusement park, Glinz announces a premiere. The world´s highest mobile free-fall tower will be set up, at 85 meters. It was constructed in East Tyrol and has so far also had stations in Hamburg, Berlin and Halle an der Saale. The operators are the Boos brothers from Magdeburg (Saxony-Anhalt). In addition to the amusement park, the organizers say they want to offer a folk festival atmosphere with live music, good cuisine and tradition. MFSB also recorded as The Music Makers and Family and were the house band for Gamble and Huff´s Philadelphia International Records Label.
"TSOP" was the theme for the TV show Soul Train, which the radio and television personality Don Cornelius started on a local Chicago station in 1970. The next year, it was syndicated around the United States and became a popular showcase for black music. At first, the theme song was "Hot Potatoes" by King Curtis, but in 1973, Cornelius asked Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff to write him a new song, and this is what they came up with. Gamble and Huff own Philadelphia International Records, and many of their artists were featured on Soul Train. After writing this song for Soul Train, Gamble and Huff wanted to release it immediately. Instead of calling it "Soul Train," they renamed it at the request of Don Cornelius, who was very protective of his trademark. Cornelius later called his request to rename the song "the dumbest move I ever made."
MFSB were the first group whose name consists solely of an initialism or acronym to top the Hot 100 - and here they are with "The Sound Of Philadelphia":

6/8/85:John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band - Tough All Over Madonna - Crazy For You Sade - Smooth Operator Survivor - The Search Is OverThe Power Station - Some Like It Hot Debut"Full of motivation and unstoppable ! That´s how Kati Bellowitsch came to Ö3, that´s how she shaped Ö3 during the last years and that´s how she´s moving on now. I thank Kati for very successful, beautiful and great radio moments," says Ö3 boss Georg Spatt. In addition to her family, the Styrian´s recipe for success includes above all her enjoyment of her work: "If your job fulfills you all your life, you stay true to yourself, are authentic and enjoy your work every day, then you´ve done everything right. All the more I´m looking forward to my new projects," says Kati. On social media, she inspires thousands of Instagram followers with her positive attitude towards life. The word "rest" is rarely found with her, so now there are again some new projects on the schedule: "As a trained educator, it has also always been my goal to pass on knowledge." In addition to "Lower Austria Today," I´m now starting out as a lecturer in the field of "Journalism & Media Management" at the Vienna University of Applied Sciences. Teaching young people and conveying to them the enthusiasm for the medium of radio fills me with incredible happiness and great joy." So, here´s a " debut"-edition for this week: 6/8/85:Air Supply - Just As I AmBruce Springsteen - Glory Days Night Ranger - Sentimental Street Supertramp - Cannonball The Beach Boys - Getcha Back Time for an extra: Middle Of The RoadConsidered one of the best railroad museums in the world, the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento. A visit is simply a must for railroad fans. The Wild West could only be opened up by the construction of tracks and by locomotives. The Sacramento Valley Railroad played an important role in opening up the area. The museum right next to the former main station of Sacramento - informs about the beginnings and the feat to build the railroad as well as about the consequences of the technical development.
In 1971, the Scottish band Middle Of The Road sang the praises of California´s state capital - and Carlene Carter incorporated elements from that song in her song "Every Little Thing." from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.

Sade and The Temptations are This Week's Shooda Dun Betr Picks. When I was in college, it was rare for me to buy a new CD based on one song but I purchased Sade's "Stronger Than Pride" based on "Paradise" by itself. Meanwhile, I didn't discover "Shakey Ground" until Elton John and Don Henley sang a version on Elton John's "Duets" CD from the mid '90s. I'll feature both versions of "Shakey Ground" along with "Paradise":

Jeff Christie´s career began like that of hundreds of other musicians in Great Britain: he played in a skiffle band, because the youth in Great Britain at the end of the 1950s adored Lonnie Donegan at least as much as Elvis Presley, who was "so far away". It wasn´t until the first U.S. Rock´n´Roll stars came to Britain that this music also played a role and was practiced by school bands until they were able to play these songs themselves.
But not all of them became as successful as the bands from Liverpool or London. Jeff Christie was from Leeds and things were a little quieter there. But when the Beatles conquered the world, his band "Outer Limits" also made beat music. Like many other bands, when the band members finished school, they usually broke up. This was also true for the Outer Limits. Jeff Christie - unlike the other members of the band, who were even allowed to record a few singles - wanted to continue to make music and earn money with his music. So he began to establish himself as a songwriter. The Tremeloes in particular were taken with his songs, which they were offered by Jeff Christie via demo tape. They got together for a session where Jeff Christie recorded his songs with the popular members of the band as backing band. None of these songs ever got to the public. Instead, the members of the Tremeloes managed to motivate the singer-songwriter so much that he unceremoniously set up his own band. He simply called it Christie. The first thing the newly created band, which through the new relationships got a contract with the Tremeloes´ record company, recorded was the song that was chosen by the mentors as particularly likely to be a hit: "Yellow River" To meet the contracts with the record company, Jeff Christie sang the song together with guitarist Vic Elmes. Otherwise, the recordings of the session with the Tremeloes were used as playback for "Yellow River". The record company was enthusiastic and at first the then Tremeloes drummer Mike Blakley joined Jeff Christie and Vic Elmes on stage for the first promotion dates. He and his brother Alan had a good nose, because "Yellow River" climbed higher in the charts from week to week. If it hadn´t been for Mungo Jerry´s "In The Summertime" in the summer of 1970, the band would certainly have reached #1 in the charts. But even so, it became one of the really big hits of the year and is still part of the repertoire of every good oldies station today. While the big hit "Yellow River" did not manage to get past "In The Summertime" in the charts in 1970, Christie landed a #1 hit with his single "San Bernadino". from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits.
