The final
There is no clear favorite. Italy, which is aiming for the second title after 1968 in its fourth European Championship final, has played a furious tournament so far, but around 60,000 spectators want to whip the British to their first European title. The current generation of the "Three Lions" could make the legendary and almost mystically revered 1966 World Cup title forgotten for those who only know the pictures from the TV archive. "We´ve all waited so long", said star striker Harry Kane, who was far from born when England reached a major tournament final for the last time in 1966. "You have to seize the opportunity with both hands. This is the greatest game of my career so far, and probably the greatest game of all our careers", said the four-time tournament scorer, who knows how difficult the task is. "It will be very tough against Italy."
And here´s my "Hits from the Brits"-edition:
7/16/83:
ELO - Rock´n Roll Is King Elton John - I´m Still Standing Madness - Our House Rod Stewart - Baby Jane The Human League - (Keep Felling) Fascination
Time for an Italian extra: Ryan Paris
Ryan Paris (born on 3/12/1953 in Rome, real name Fabio Roscioli) is an Italian singer and producer and the son of a painter. He broke off his architecture studies in the late 1970s to go on a trip around the world. In 1981 he tried his hand at acting in Italy: he had a supporting role in the Sergio Leone movie "Once Upon a Time in America". However, his acting career wasn´t crowned with particular success, after which he devoted himself to music. He had his best known hit in 1983 with "Dolce Vita". The song was composed by Pierluigi Giombini, who discovered and promoted Paris. Giombini also took care of the arrangement and production and played the piano. The text is by Paul Mazzolini. In addition to Ryan Paris, Fiona Chapelle can also be heard. Giampaolo Bresciani was responsible for the sound engineering. The title is based on the film of the same name "The Sweet Life" by Federico Fellini. With this song, Paris was one of the founders of the Italo disco wave. Characterized by the synthesizer sound, "Dolce Vita" is a typical representative of the New Wave genre:

"Getting Closer" is a power pop/rock gem with an absolutely fantastic ending. You know how baseball players have their "walk up" song when they approach the plate? I would want the last minute and three seconds of GC to be my walk-up song... that section of the tune is that great! Meanwhile, the studio version of "Coming Up" is a gem, and the video is way cool... one of my favorite music videos of all-time! CU is a rare song that I prefer in its single version than the full album length version so let's enjoy some Paul McCartney and some Paul McCartney :

7/19/80 (A):Air Supply - All Out Of LoveBob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Against The WindJoe Walsh - All Night Long Lipps Inc. - Funky Town Rocky Burnette - Tired Of Toein´ The Line 7/23/88 (B):Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me Jane Wiedlin - Rush Hour Poison - Nothin´ But A Good Time Richard Marx - Hold On To The NightsThe Jets - Make It Real Staying powerSince the beginning of July 2021, warm, stormy winds came from France and over Piedmont and, with a low altitude, a cool wind current from the north came to Central Europe. This resulted in a large, relatively fixed low pressure area due to the currently weak jet stream. After about a week, the low pressure area lay over the Eastern Alps, where it slowly filled up and is currently leading to severe flooding in Austria. Hence two " staying power"-editions for all emergency services: 7/19/80 (A):
Bette Midler - The Rose Mickey Gilley - Stand By Me Olivia Newton-John - Magic Paul McCartney & Wings - Coming Up The Electric Light Orchestra - I´m Alive
7/23/88 (B):Brenda K. Starr - I Still Believe Cheap Trick - The FlameChicago - I Don´t Wanna Live Without Your Love Climie Fisher - Love Changes (Everything) Moody Blues - I Know You´re Out There Somewhere Time for an Italian extra: Edoardo BennatoA few days ago ... Italy became European soccer champion. In a few days ... Edoardo Bennato will be 75 years old. In 1990 ... Italy hosted the Soccer World Championship. Also in 1990 ... Giorgio Moroder produced the Soccer World Championship song "Un´ Estate Italiana" together with Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini: And in 1980 ? Well, in 1980 Edoardo Bennato was quite critical of the music industry. He was supposed to be producing music all the time - and after a cash settlement of 100 lire, the next song should start - just like a jukebox. A thoroughly critical song with a saxophone solo - "Sei Come Un Juke-Box": from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

No love for Wet Willie's "Weekend" from 7/21/1979? seminolefan and I usually only feature the A show each week so neither one of us weighed in on this past weekend's B show from '79. listenerwants2know usually highlights his favorites from the 80s A (and B) show(s) so he passed on listing his favorites from the '79 show. That leaves trekkielo as the sole person who could have listed "Weekend" but didn't. Maybe if it was produced by Jeff Lynne, it would have been on his list (sorry, couldn't resist ).

Jeff Lynne produced only one out of my favorite 23 songs from the 7/21/1979 B show, that was "Shine a Little Love" by Electric Light Orchestra and I don't like every song outside ELO just because he produced it! 7/24/1971 Beginnings - Chicago Liar - Three Dog Night Signs - Five Man Electrical Band Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again - Fortunes Riders on the Storm - Doors Sooner or Later - Grass Roots Indian Reservation - Raiders Wild Horses - Rolling Stones How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? - Bee Gees Don't Pull Your Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds Draggin' the Line - Tommy James Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology) - Marvin Gaye You've Got a Friend - James Taylor Moon Shadow - Cat Stevens When You're Hot You're Hot - Jerry Reed What the World Need Now Is Love - Tom Clay Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver w/Fat City Rainy Days & Mondays - The Carpenters Treat Her Like a Lady - Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose If Not for You - Olivia Newton-John It's Too Late - Carole King That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be - Carly Simon Mr. Big Stuff - Jean Knight Want Ads - The Honey Cone 7/22/1978 Hot Blooded - Foreigner Love Will Find a Way - Pablo Cruise Miss You - Rolling Stones Three Times a Lady - Commodores Use ta Be My Girl - O'Jays Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty Bluer Than Blue - Michael Johnson Life's Been Good - Joe Walsh Two Out of Three Ain't Bad - Meat Loaf Magnet and Steel - Walter Egan Stay - Jackson Browne Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton Copacabana (At the Copa) - Barry Manilow Grease - Frankie Valli Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb Still the Same - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band King Tut - Steve Martin & the Toot Uncommons Runaway - Jefferson Starship Rivers of Babylon - Boney M Take a Chance on Me - Abba You're the One That I Want - John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John Hopelessly Devoted to You - Olivia Newton-John It's a Heartache - Bonnie Tyler Last Dance - Donna Summer Songbird - Barbra Streisand Boogie Oogie Oogie - A Taste of Honey 7/27/1985 Sussudio - Phil Collins Don't Lose My Number - Phil Collins You're Only Human (Second Wind) - Billy Joel Power of Love - Huey Lewis and the News A View to a Kill - Duran Duran We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) - Tina Turner Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen Summer of '69 - Bryan Adams Everytime You Go Away - Paul Young If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - Sting Shout - Tears for Fears You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) - Dead or Alive People are People - Depeche Mode The Search Is Over - Survivor Bang a Gong (Get It On) - The Power Station Would I Lie to You - Eurythmics What About Love? - Heart Invincible (Theme from The Legend of Billie Jean) - Pat Benatar Freeway of Love - Aretha Franklin The Goonies 'R' Good Enough - Cyndi Lauper

7/27/85:Kim Carnes - Crazy In The Night (Barking At Airplanes) Phil Collins - Don´t Lose My Number Survior - The Search Is OverThe Pointer Sisters - Dare Me The Power Station - Get It On (Bang A Gong) Musician and photographerThey are shootings at eye level: when he takes photos of friends and colleagues, Bryan Adams always comes very close to his counterpart. He takes his time, finds the right ambience, looks for the right pose to take a look behind the mask of the celebrities without exposing them. Whether Amy Winehouse or Mick Jagger, Danny Trejo or Sir Ben Kingsley, Kate Moss or The Queen: they all obviously felt very comfortable in front of the photographer´s camera. Maybe the easiest way to explain the special relationship of trust is that he himself knows all too well how to stand in a thunderstorm of flashlights. So it´s no wonder that the stars love to be photographed by him, because they feel understood and can open up in front of his camera. Adams knows how to play brilliantly with many of the cliches of celebrity photography when he captures the stars in ironic-comic situations, but he also finds the quiet, intimate moments. The photographer simply masters all means of representation, from classic studio photography to spontaneous snapshots. Bryan Adams has had a rapid career as a photographer since the 1990s, parallel to his success as a singer, songwriter and producer. What began as a teenager has long since brought him awards and exhibitions. And so the photos not only reveal famous contemporaries in gripping portraits and sometimes surprising facets, but above all the quality of the author himself. His motifs give an insight into the mutual dialogue between the photographer and the portrayed. Just as photographs can only depict the surface as a two-dimensional plane, they certainly have the ability to trigger complex associations and thoughts in the viewer that go far beyond the apparently obvious. This is the only way to create portraits that not only stand out, but also have an effect.
Since last Thursday and until 11/6/2021, the Leica Gallery in the city of Salzburg presents photographs by Bryan Adams. And here´s my very special " Adams"-edition: 7/27/85:Aretha Frankin - Freeway Of Love Depeche Mode - People Are People Amy Grant - Find A Way Madonna - Angel Sting - If You Love Somebody Set Them Free Time for an Italian extra: MartinelliAldo Martinelli was born in Milan. He attended the Conservatory of Music in Alessandria and graduated in piano. He later played keyboard in big bands and worked as a music teacher at the Istituto Comprensivo Cinque Giornate school. He was also a songwriter in the early 1980s - an example will follow next week. In 1985 Martinelli had his only solo hit with "Cenerentola" (subtitle "Cinderella") - a striking feature is the cuckoo in the song: from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."
