I thought of two songs from this week in 1969 that reached # 1 in 1970:"I Want You Back" by The Jackson Five & "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" by BJ Thomas.

Survey date is 12-6-69. I guess Dave keeps us guessing--this is on target for the week we are in, but mostly he goes over a week into the future.

Next week's show will be 1963, and the chart date should be 12-14-63, four days ahead of actual date, as this week was three days in advance. Dominque by the Singing Nun was #1. Very tragic story regarding this Belgian Nun, who sadly took her life at age 51 in 1985 after leaving the convent.

I remember that my family had The Singing Nun's album-It contained all the lyrics to her songs which were in English & French.

I remember when Lou Simon hosted the 60s Satellite Survey and did a December 1963 show with "Dominique" at #1, he joked that if you play the record backward then you can hear voices saying "Please....send us the Beatles."

After he played "Suite:Judy Blue Eyes",Dave Hoeffel didn't mention that the song was written about Judy Collins whom Stephen Stills was dating at the time-I'm glad the album version was featured.

The next countdown will feature "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen, which was controversial in its time. Supposedly the lyrics were investigated by the FBI. These lyrics are so tame compared to those of today's music. LL never made to #1 being kept out by "Dominque" and "There I've Said It Again."

We'll also hear "She's A Fool" by Lesley Gore & "Everybody" by Tommy Roe-Those were both top five hits.

One of my favorites from the Countdown is "Quicksand" by Martha and the Vandellas.

Dave fooled me--he went with the chart date of 12-21-63, which is 11 days from today. Last week he went with 12-6-69 which was 3 days away from actual date. Guess Dave wants to keep us guessing!

1968 next week, and the calendar after 2-29-68 was the same as 1963, so same chart date two weeks in a row, as in 12-21-68? No matter what week he goes with, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" was #1.

I remember when Lou Simon hosted the 60s Satellite Survey and did a December 1963 show with "Dominique" at #1, he joked that if you play the record backward then you can hear voices saying "Please....send us the Beatles." One of the big reasons that Dominique spent more weeks at #1 than it probably should have was the assassination of JFK. Many radio stations toned down the music in the days and weeks after the tragedy.

You could say the same about "There! I've Said It Again" by Bobby Vinton which replaced "Dominique"-Bobby's hit was # 1 the entire month of January 1964.
