Today's show is 1969. I was betting on 1968 since the Turtles "crawled" out of the Top 40 with "Elenore." Joe Cantello did this same week on Cashbox's Countdown. I compared the charts and one big difference--"Going In Circles" was #23 on BB, and on Cashbox, #85. If both were based on national sales, I find a 62 notch difference very puzzling.

Thanks mkarns for your hard work in compiling this list. Actually I didn’t. I just copied a list that someone else posted in the Sirius XM Fans Facebook group, in which I usually post playlists of their 70s (Casey AT40) and 80s countdowns.

Being that Dave Hoeffel started the show with notable Christmas hits from the '40's, I was so hoping he would play that quirky novelty song "I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas" by Yogi Yorgesson (aka Harry Stewart), since it was a Top 10 pop hit in late 1949. It's definitely a period piece, but a pretty funny one. I remember reading that it placed in both original AT40 Christmas countdowns (in '71 and '73), but in the latter, Casey just made mention of it and refused to actually play it.
Speaking of songs that I believe were unfairly left out, two bonafide classics are conspicuous by their absence: "Sleigh Ride" by Leroy Anderson, and "It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year" by Andy Williams. How could Dave have left out those two iconic records?

Casey played it in the 1971 Christmas countdown. In 1973 he just played the opening song segment, and said "It starts out as a song, but then a little later it goes into a comedy monologue, which must have been pretty funny back in 1949 because it hit #5 on the charts. But it really doesn't make it today, so we'll 'yust' move along to the next song on the all-time Christmas countdown." Premiere's current version of the 1973 Christmas show of course plays the whole record, and Casey's speaking parts are altered accordingly.

Anyone predicting 1968 for this coming weekend, or do you think Dave will do a New Year's special?

Given the Countdown starts Saturday, the 26th, it shouldn't be affected, but you never know. I just know that 1968 hasn't been played since May.

I deleted my above post on Dave Hoeffel's Christmas show ("Christmas Hits Through the Years") since contrary to what I thought before listening, it's not actually a countdown but rather just a chronological journey through 80+ years of popular Christmas songs. Note the inclusion of Bing Crosby's "Silent Night" at the end out of chronological order; Casey did the same in his 1970s Christmas countdowns "because we just didn't know where to put it!"
