Surprised that Dave Hoeffel is doing "60's Satellite Survey" this weekend-I thought he'd have taken the week off.

I missed the very first part of the countdown, but did Dave define "one hit wonder?" Was it an artist that only had one Top 40 hit?

I missed the very first part of the countdown, but did Dave define "one hit wonder?" Was it an artist that only had one Top 40 hit? Yes, basically. What I call the true OHWs are those artists who went all the way to #1 with their first Hot 100 entry, then never charted again. This Survey has three of them: the Hollywood Argyles (15), the Singing Nun (5), and Zager & Evans (2).

Jaynetts only had one hit--"Sally Go Round The Roses." They never made the Hot 100 again.

Kinda surprised that Napoleon XIV's famous or infamous "They're Coming To Take Me Away,Ha-Ha!" wasn't heard-That song created a bit of controversy upon its release in 1966-Despite its # 3 peak, the song was soon taken off station playlists because it was considered to be offensive towards folks who were mentally ill.

That last point explains why the song didn't accumulate enough chart points to make this Survey. In fact, for the decade overall, it finished at #1,051.

Thanks for the list doofus67.
Curiously Napoleon XIV charted # 22 in the One Hit Wonders special from 2011 ( repeated in 2015 ) with Lou Simon.

The New Colony Six managed to reach the top forty twice in the late 60's with "Things I'd Like To Say" & "I Will Always Think About You"-Both songs are excellent-I was surprised that Dave Hoeffel didn't mention that Heart did a spot on rendition of "Tell It Like It Is" which reached the top ten in late 1980-early 1981.

The New Colony Six and The Cryan' Shames, both from Chicago, were two of the greatest and most underrated bands of the 1960's. I have greatest hits CD's of both bands, and they're chock full of great songs, well-known as well as obscure. Their careers were similar in that both started out as bonafide garage rock bands, then morphed into mellow pop/rock bands. Both band produced great rockin' songs and great mellow songs. And, as you might expect, their releases did far better on the WLS and WCFL local station charts than they did on the Billboard Hot 100.
