"Light My Fire" was the # 1 song this week in 1967-It'll be interesting to see if Dave Hoeffel will play the single edit which clocks in at 2:52 or the album version which clocks in at 7:06.

Awesome!-It's about time we heard a 1967 countdown. I am very psyched up about this early August 1967 countdown! I am very much hoping that Dave Hoeffel chooses as one of his staff pick extras "It Could Be We're In Love" by the Cryan Shames from Chicago. I want to hear him elaborate on how it only peaked at #85 on Billboard, yet spent four weeks at #1 on WLS in Chicago (even keeping "Light My Fire" out of the top spot on that station). It still remains one of the most bizarre anomalies in the history of pop music. Back then, WLS was a 50,000 watt blowtorch, with a signal that traveled many hundreds of miles at nighttime. Kids from faraway cities had to have heard this song. I would think they would be inquiring the DJ's and record store owners in their city about this song, creating new demand through word of mouth. This song, and the Cryan Shames in general, deserved far more national success than they got.

Dave played the single version of "Light My Fire." Next week is 1962, and #1 will be "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" by Neil Sedaka. In 1976, Neil's remake of that song would be a slower version and reach the Top 10 during that Winter.

I've always preferred the slower version of "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do".

Unfortunately we won't hear it since it was in the 70's, but what a talent to re-do the same song with an equal appeal.
