Only a lonely heart sees how good this 1980 show can be! Turbo Casey playing lots of soft/yacht rock, Urban Cowboy country, rock. R&B, movie music, new wave, and disco without being hit over the head with it like a year prior. MJ, Chris Cross, Rupert Holmes not drinking pina coladas!
But that is only an appetizer for next week's 1982 with Elt, H&O, and Charlene. Willie, Dr. Hooker, Dr. Noah Drake, and Charlene. Meco Movies, Chariots, Stars, Pac Man, Magnum, and did I mention Charlene?!

This week's B show: March 23, 1985. There isn't a song I really dislike in the entire countdown. A couple songs where I go "eh" (Autograph and Journey) but I don't hate either song. I actually like the rest of the countdown. Just about any of the shows from March or April 1985 fit the bill for me. And I would have to say that "Turn Up the Radio" and "Only the Young" are right up there with my favorites of that time. Spring of 1985 was one of the best times of the rock era for me. My least favorite songs on the 3/23/85 show were "Why Can't I Have You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling", but even both of those are OK... This past weekend's 4/20/85 show was terrific. Only two meh songs, and they're out of the way early (Celebrate Youth at 39 and One Lonely Night at 38).

Not sure where to place this comment - Chart critiques, favorite songs from this week's show, or here...
The May 13, 1972 countdown takes me back to high school, the preferred 'listening' time period for many of us. And while the entire Top 40 is memorable from start to finish, a few songs are exceptional... ...too many great R&B singles to name but The Stylistics (with Russell Thompkins Jr) were perfecting their craft ...Malo's "Suavecito" ...Nilsson's "Jump Into The Fire" ...Commander Cody's "Hot Rod Lincoln" ...and I don't believe there's ever been a better story song than Harry Chapin's "Taxi"
Let's get the countdown started.

There’s something unique about the music from the Summer of ’82. Perhaps oversimplified, but in comparison to the 3-4 previous summers, pop music appeared to be dominated by disco and then country releases. Arguably, the AT40 show for July 24, 1982 offers an improved genre balance of Top 40 songs and artists. I think what you are trying to say Peteski is you can't beat a show with H&O, Dr. Noah Drake and Swing! Kids in Alabama and Kansas listening to Gambler and Karla Bonoff!! Even the extras are Eltimate!
