Pete has put out the challenge for someone to start a lost classics from the 80s as he has been doing for the 70s. BTW, I am a 70s, 80s and 90s man myself. In any case, I think the purpose of Pete's 70s thread is to spotlight a non-top 40 hit that was a good to great song which was played back in the day but has little to no recurrent airplay today. I am not listening to a whole lot of oldies radio these days to know whether songs are being played or not however. So my choices may get some feedback in that regard. Anyway, I have chosen this song over Billy Idol's "Rebel Yell" and Motley Crue's "Looks That Kill" because my guess is those 2 are getting more recurrent airplay. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rG_5LFKxYwBTW, Pete's next post will be his 1000th. Of course he went for quality instead of quantity as yours truly did.

I would say that you are correct on your choice being played less than the other two nominees. Great song!

Last week it was a rocker. So it's time to slow things down a bit. These guys could have re-released this after getting their first top 10 hit a year later as many artists have done over the years. Anyway, they are one of 2 'white' hair bands below the top 40. The other is Whitesnake.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBuCOlZmixc

Agreed ... a great track that carries a hint of ELP.
An interesting side note -- the 10th anniversary of The Station nightclub fire that featured Great White and killed 100 is a little more than a week away.

For the second week in a row, someone may post that the song sounds like Emerson, Lake & Palmer. I was thinking about a certain song with a very short title that has been discussed on the 80s show thread by many. But instead, the only song on the Hot 100 with an even shorter title than the 3 letter title of Dan Seals' song..... In view of the fact that the song I selected (Asia's "Go") did appear on a top 40 countdown as noted my mkarns, let's change it up. A more appropriate song considering Valentine's Day occurred this week is this one.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWcGRvLUctw

And while that song missed the Billboard Top 40, it did reach that level in Radio & Records; last week Rick Dees put up a countdown that included it.

an excellent choice; I remember it getting quite a bit of NYC airplay at the time (it was a Frankie Crocker fave iirc) and considering how hot Prince was it really shoulda charted higher. can't really endorse the Night Ranger pick -- for my money "Sister Christian" is one of the worst songs ever and "Still Rock in America" is the sort of jingoistic Reagan-era "America! F--k Yeah!" claptrap that followed in the wake of the (misunderstood by the masses) "Born in the USA". But hey, to each his own.

Actually, the Night Ranger song charted before "Born in the USA", though unlike Bruce's song it didn't have somber lyrics to go along with an anthemic chorus that lent itself to misinterpretation by those who didn't listen to the verses.

Since Premiere opted not to go with one of those odd ball extras this week, I will choose a song that they could have chosen in that regard. It was getting airplay in my area around the time of this week's show and looked like the third single from these guys' album. But it was never released maybe because their next album and single from it were due out soon.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWofxpq3fgA

The silly UMD site is down yet again. Good thing I was able to get in the other day. There are 2 songs on the chart with the same title although this one has exclamation points in it too. Decent followup to this band's first top 40 hit.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWyBw77zahE

Two completely different songs, neither hit the Top 40, and both great songs!

There must be a reason why you don't put the name of the song and the artist in your posts. I son't know what that reason is, but it's why I won't be back.
