Let me go back and say that I do enjoy holiday music for the most part and I know that playing all holiday music for some stations can be a ratings/fiscal bottom line winner but don't go all holiday music the first of November. For me start with one or two songs an hour and phase in more as you get closer to Christmas and if you want to go all holiday music maybe a week or 10 days before Christmas that's fine. I'm all for putting listeners into "the holiday mood" but please no overkill.

I'm with you--don't mind some holiday music the week or two before Christmas, but at the start of November? That is just way too early. Hearing all the Xmas music on WJGH this morning instead of the '70s show just sounded ridiculous. Maybe it is eventually a ratings winner, but is anyone that excited about Christmas yet? And don't these stations run the risk of having everyone be so sick of Christmas music before the holidays even arrive?

AC stations have been using this gimmick to get a 'temporary' boost in their ratings for ages, although the practice does NOT result in more revenue for the station unless they increase the number of commercials they air, which is never a good thing.

Interesting. It appears Premiere Radio is rebroadcasting the AT20 Top 30 Christmas Countdown from 2003 (edited from 2001) this weekend. It has been eight years since this show has aired.
It will be interesting how this show will be edited again with the current format clock. When this top 30 Christmas Countdown aired in 2003, it had 5 segments per hour with no optional extras. Looking at the list there will be AT20 extras. Thus, it appears this show will have the current format clock with 3 segments with the optional 4th segments in hour 1 and 2. Hour 3 will have 4 regular segments with the optional segement before the #2 song.
They might use Casey's voice on the Little Saint Nick extra from the 2001 Xmas Show. Casey's voice might be used again for the Chipmunk Song, since it was used as a optional segment on one of the AT10 Xmas shows. However, Larry Morgan will have to intro the Glee Cast "Last Christmas" since Glee started in 2009 just before Casey retired.
The start of the 2nd and 3rd hour will also be different. It was just a cold opening. The song would start and Casey just intros the #19 song in hour 2 and the #10 song in hour 3. It will be interesting to hear Larry Morgan say "Your listening to a Classic AT20 Countdown with Casey Kasem" then start the cold opening.
I have to record this on Sunday Morning from this station and hear how this plays out.

WLIF (Baltimore) starts playing all-Christmas music on November 23, the day before Thanksgiving. Casey's Christmas countdowns will then air for the next month in its 70s AT40 timeslot (Sunday at 8 AM).

Folks in Boston & Milwaukee now have two all-Christmas stations as of today, according to Tom Taylor's newsletter available for free at www.radio-info.com. Unfortunately, one of them is Boston's WODS, which carries Casey's show.

Do you know what stations will be airing this show MEF? Only Lite 94.5 FM in Dayton Ohio is the one station that air this Xmas top 30 this weekend to my knowledge. WHNN confirms on their website that they will be airing AT40 the 70s from 1972 on Sunday.

WRVF is airing the American Top 20 Christmas show from 6 to 9 pm EST on 11/12/11. It appears WRVF will air all the Casey Xmas shows this year on Saturday nights.

I've only heard then 2nd half of the AT20 Xmas Show on WRVF. The 2nd ending hour optional extra "Chipmunk Song" was not played. The 3rd hour start still had the same cold beginning, Holly Jolly Christmas starts playing and Casey intros that song at #10.
WRVF did play the 3rd hour optional segment two songs after #3. There is no announcement at the beginning. "Oh Santa" and "Last Christmas" At the end of the optional segment, Larry Morgan does tell you the last 2 songs were played and they were from 2010. However, the #2 and #1 songs were chopped off their automation due to the show running past 9pm.
