I'm listening right now to this weeks CHR version of the show, and I'm getting the feeling that AT40 is becoming more and more an afterthought in Ryan Seacrest's life. I'm not calling it shoddily produced like Dees's HAC version used to be, but it seems like there's numbers he's introing with no title or artist so the bit can be used on both shows. Maybe I'm overreacting but I don't remember it being this way. Plus, tons of extras during the show. Again, not a bad thing but based on the past it seems it's not high on the priority list anymore. Maybe he's just too busy right now with Idol?

I don't even listen to current AT40 at all. It sucks. It may play in my friend's car while I am out on errands or doing an activity on weekends, but I never do play it in my apartment.

I think every song should be introed/outroed as Casey did, with title, artist, and chart position given at the beginning and end. Far too many songs lack this, but it's nothing new for the current AT40; in fact in the early 1990s Shadoe's countdown started taking this shortcut, playing songs without introductions ("No Nuttin").
I actually think more extras is an improvement; if they've got time to fill I'd rather that it be with more songs than bantering with celebrities who often have nothing to do with the chart or music.

I stopped listening to Seacrest's American Top 40 about a year ago because I found that it was painfully boring to listen to, with all the celebrity crap. I couldn't care less who Britney Spears' man of the week is or what Lindsey Lohan got arrested fpr this time. When I tune in to hear a countdown show, I want to hear songs along with the stories behind them. If I wanted to hear celebrity gossip, I would turn on Entertainment tonight.

You know, I listen to this show because it is still a "hit parade" full of songs that makes a person wanna get on down and enjoy. Each week whenever I'm the late night manager (I work various shifts) I play AT40 and my employees seem to enjoy. If I don't play it on any given night that I'm working questions come up. For me personally as an AT40 fan and music fan this show still needs work as far as I'm concerned. I'm listening as we speak...And another thing, I really don't listen to the radio unless it's weekend programming so that may be a factor of listening to this without being bored.

The thing about AT40 now is that it is indistinguishable from the regular sound of the majority of the Clear Channel CHR "Kiss" stations. The imaging voices are the same, the sweepers and sound of the show are similar, and nearly all of those stations air Seacrest's weekday show. Really, AT40 sounds just like the regular programming, except the songs are airing in a particular order. That said - as much as we as AT40 purists dislike the show, it sounds great for the audience and affiliate stations, and there is a reason it is so sucessful.

The end of the show has been shortened even more, effective with this weekends show. After #1, It Will Rain by Bruno Mars, Ryan outroed the song, mentioned it was a new number one, asked us to join him next week, and the show was over within five seconds. The little bit of theme song we usually hear was gone.

Shortly after he's done talking you hear the final musical "Bob Kingsley's CT40" and whatever the really hokey comment the guy makes when it's over every week.

Shameful if not, it seems Ryan puts less and less into this show since he has so much going on.

So Jennifer Lopez was on the show (again) this weekend of 3/10/2012 promoting her new show. No .... just no..... Jennifer Lopez had her best stuff up to and including 2003. "Get Right" from 2005 was pretty good, but after that, I didn't care for her music at all. "Hold You Down" - also from 2005 - takes a sample of Shirley Murdock's 1987 hit "As We Lay" (which was the better song) and butchers it into a rap ballad with Fat Joe. The only current Jennifer Lopez song I like is her recent song with Pitbull (the one that has some notes from Kaoma's 1989 song "Lambada" within the song) - but other than that, her sound just isn't the same anymore. But at least Jennifer Lopez is one of the very, very small number of 40+ year old singers hitting the top 40 these days. After #1, It Will Rain by Bruno Mars, Ryan outroed the song, mentioned it was a new number one, asked us to join him next week, and the show was over within five seconds. Even more reason for me to tune out AT40 now, unless it's rebroadcasts by Casey Kasem. Talk about cutting to the chase.

The closing theme was back the week after I posted that - it must have just been a week where they were extremely close on timing out the show. Still, it bugs me that they don't mention Casey and Don at the end of the show. Even Kix Brooks still mentions them at the end of ACC.

That may have to do with who owns ACC and the original agreement of its sale.
