Last Sunday (9/25/2011) The very last show of The Ultimate Oldies Countdown was aired. Bob Mathers, the host of the show has informed me that he will cease production of his countdown series effective with that show to produce themed based shows for his website. We will still air these now and them as part of our Sunday lineup. Also once or twice a month we will repeat one of his earlier shows. If you have been following his weekly series, his countdowns are focused on the 1960's era with a short selection of 1950's and 1970's shows and no 1980's shows. Therefore starting next Sunday October 2, 2011 The Oldies Collection Top 40 countdown will debut at 9:00 AM (eastern). with me as the host. The first show will be on the weekend 10/4/1975 (AT40 ran a special for that week). The show will be fast paced with very little talk between the music, I believe this show is only two hour and 40 minutes long. The show has about 4 songs that are long versions including "Fight The Power" by the Isleys that I had to bleep the two bulls**t's out myself . Just a worthy note that I do not have a professional radio voice like Casey and BME, so my delivery is lousy, but my folks tells me that I sound great. I had issues with my first show as my microphone was acting up and It sounded like I was talking in a rainstorm from songs 19-15. Also my recording software (Adobe AU) was dropping samples here and there. Also I need to straighten my recording levels out. Hopefully I have these resolved by my second show. Here is a tentative schedule for the month of October 10/2/2011 -- 10/4/1975 10/9/2011 -- 10/10/1987 10/16/2011 -- 10/16/1977 10/23/2011 -- 10/23/1965 -- The Ultimate Oldies Countdown 10/30/2011 -- 10/27/1984 If you listen to the show -- give me some feedback on it. www.theoldiescollection.comI may post the show for streaming on my website.

I just completed the production of my second show which as scheduled will be from October 10, 1977. The show will be just under three hours long, and have a few songs that are over six minutes long. I almost messed up by playing the wrong record at #19 and caught it during the assembly of the show. The issues that were in my first show is 90% resolved in this show.
Also starting with this show I made an announcement that listeners of the show will have their say in voting what year I should be counting down the Top 100 of the year. The range will be from the years 1970-1989. Also let me know from this board too and I'll count the votes in. The deadline for all entries will be November 15, 2011 and the show will air on January 1, 2012.

Did you mean October 8 or 15? Those are the dates for 1977. Wish I knew what year end show besides 1987 was going to be broadcast on the 3 series then I could narrow down what year end countdown to vote for. But I would vote for 1971 or 73 because those years only feature a top 40 countdown by AT40.

That reminds me, in the top 80 of 1972, AT40 played a version of American Pie that I am not familiar with. Now the 45 version features verses 2,3, and 5 and starts with "Bye bye Miss American Pie". The Lp version features all 6 verses and starts with "A long, long time ago". However, AT40 played a version that starts with "Bye, bye Miss Amiercan Pie" and then verses 2 through 6. Was this a special promotional copy given to radio stations or maybe just AT40?

My 45 had part one on one side and part two on the other. I thing the one they play Starting that way is their own special edit.

There was a promo 45 that matches one of the versions dukedeb referred to (beginning with "Bye bye Miss American Pie"). It runs 4:21 so you should be able to narrow it down from that.

That could be any of the early 70s years or 1979, when AT40 only played the top 50.

Also thanks to all on the board for your input on the year's Top 100. I was thinking of selecting the "non" 100 years. (1970..1971..1972..1973..1979).

This week's Top 40 will be on October 15, 1977. The running time will be 2h:43m. I played the long version of Barry White's - It's Ecstacy.....I know that AT40 edited down to 1:15 on one of their shows, but the intro itself is also 1:15 ! There are two or three more songs that are lengthy versions.

Have at it Pandy. If I wasn't bogged down with the beginning of my Classic Rock show and another opportunity knocking..... I'd do one or more. As it is, I may not be doing the 60's one or ones I promised to do. I'll still have a go at it if I can.

According to the first post of this thread I was going to take a break for this weekend and have Bob Mathers do the show. But being that I was able to find all the records I needed, the show will be hosted by me for October 23, 1965. Back in the 60's the playing time for each songs was very short (the shortest was 1:51), the show will include seven extra songs that are below the 40 and one LP cut. Also there is a surprise at number one. The playing time for the show is 2 hours 23 minutes.
I have a tentative schedule for November.
11/6/2011 -- 11/6/1976 11/13/2011 -- 11/12/1966 - with Bob Mathers or my own show. 11/20/2011 -- 11/20/1982 11/27/2011 -- 11/24/1979

This weekend's show (10/30) will be from October 27, 1984. This show with all 40 songs (no extras) is 3 hours and 1 minute long as compared to the 1965 show last time as 2:23 with 48 songs (40 charted and 8 extras). As normal it will start at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday with a repeat at 4:33 PM. (+ or -).
I have 10/23/1965 on my website in the Multimedia section to listen to anytime.

I just finished production of this weekend's show from 11/6/1976 (40 years from today) for broadcast this coming Sunday. This show has only one extra, but it is filled with long versions and 12 inch versions to time out at 3 hours and 1 minute. One song itself runs just under 14 minutes long and will be played, can you guess the song???
This Friday (if I remember) I will post 10/27/1984 countdown to the website. I apologize for the bad stream quality. Somehow I have to squash the bitrate to 64 Kbps for it to accept the upload of a large file.
