Well I just put my 10th. show 'in the can' for December 6, 1980. There will be two Christmas extras that were originally released in that year, one was difficult to locate and not a song you hear on your "Best Music from the 80's and 90's and today" stations. The other is pretty common song, I heard it.........<<< We interrupt this program to bring you a news flash from NBC News >>>>> ........ the other day. Also Christine (my wife) and I will hear our wedding song in the show. The show times out at 2 hours and 56 minutes. The show repeats around 4:40 p.m. Eastern.

Show #11 in the can for today. Thought I was not going to get it done. Had a cold on late last week (as heard on the last show) and was not able to sound good on the mike until yesterday. But here it is the top 40 for December 8, 1973. I was able to find three Christmas songs that were released for that year, not big hits, two country songs and one pop song. Also as usual a cut from the #1 song, a few LP cuts that makes up for 2 hours and 46 minutes of program time.
Here is the rest of the month:
12/18/2011 -- 12/20/1969
12/25/2011 -- The Ultimate Oldies Countdown Top 40 Christmas songs of all time.
1/1/2012 -- THE TOP 100 OF 1971 --

Sounds nice, we don't cross with our show dates for a while and I am sure my Classic Rock Christmas show won't have many of the same songs...

Talk about the rock and the British Invasion of the 1960's bring a death to a crooner. Perry Como a.ka. Mister "C" had 12 top ten hits in the 1950's and none in the 1960's and only one in the 1970's.

Our last regular weekly countdown is "in the can" for December 20, 1969. We have seven extras on the show, two Christmas and four regular, and a cut from the #1 LP for the week which is Abbey Road. Can you guess what I will play? Come Together and Something are ruled out because they are in the countdown. Even though I say "a three hour show" in the beginning it is timed out at 2 hours and 52 minutes.
HERE IS THE TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR JANUARY
1/8/2012 -- 1/7/1989 1/15/2012 -- 1/18/1975 1/22/2012 -- 1/25/1969 1/29/2012 -- 2/1/1986

>>>> TOP 100 OF 1971 UPDATE <<<<<
Thought I'd pass this information to you that the top 100 of 1971 is near completion. I have spent a total of about 75 hours on it from the start, writing it, acquiring the records, recording it and assembly. The show will feature all 100 records (some B-sides) plus cuts from the top 5 albums. Also featured will be TV, movies, sports, and news audio bytes that developed during the year of 1971. Another update in two days....

You have come up with a gem here. I am more interested in this year end countdown than any of the others airing at various places since I had not started listening to YE countdowns yet in 1971.

>>>> TOP 100 OF 1971 UPDATE <<<<<
The top 100 of 1971 is ready to air on January 1, 2012 at 9 a.m. and once again at 4:30 p.m. (New York Time). If you recall back in the mid to late 70's on the AT40 year 'enders Casey would play a montage of all the #1 songs in chronological order. In this show between #2 and #1 I will do the same thing for the #1 songs that was played on the show. It took me about an hour to do this and it will run just over 5 minutes. In producing the show I had to time out the show to run 7 hours and 30 minutes, nothing over... I did not know this until the last part of the show, but it actually timed out at 7 hours 30 minutes and 10 seconds.. no problem, just 'fade up' the closing theme earlier, and it will time out at 7:30:00. GREAT!!! Another update later...

Good so far. Not sure if it's posted. But he said 1970,71 and 79 tied for the most votes. I'm glad he chose this year since AT40 only did the top 40 of 1971.

Good so far. Not sure if it's posted. But he said 1970,71 and 79 tied for the most votes. I'm glad he chose this year since AT40 only did the top 40 of 1971. Being that Christmas and New Year's fell on a Sunday in 1971-2 and on a weekend shift at (mostly) AM stations, Watermark could have easily did a double package of the top 80 of 1971 and have the stations promote the show either to start/end a few hours earlier/later than the normal start time. I remember back in 1971 I recorded the countdown on reel tape and the station that I took from was WDRC-FM which aired at an unlikely time of 8:30 to 11:30 PM on Sunday evenings. Also the big difference is that the 1970-1972 countdowns were in mono those days. I tried get all the good possible stereo recordings. Glad you like the show, so far. The best is yet to come, including an LP track that is not in our top 5 countdown.
