Short version of Beginnings but no extras so there must be a lot of longer songs. That Tom Clay song is one of them.
The top 40 acts of the 70s is being played on teh Sun 6-9 pm station.

Ok - just listened back to see what Casey said. Intro: "Here's a double-sided hit from an album called 'Every Picture Tells A Story'. It's the #4 best selling LP in the nation this week by Rod Stewart...'Maggie May', backed with 'Reason To Believe'." Outro: "Rod Stewart...first week on at #36...'Maggie May'." So, it was very uneventful announcement to the party for Rod Stewart... Would have loved to hear this uneventful announcement ... just the historical context of it. Some song that maybe wasn't expected to be a big hit in the U.S., but ends up being one of the most famous and easily recognizable of the whole rock era. And for a guy now singing adult standards for the most part, he must still sing this one in concert ... just as he made it famous 40 years ago. Brian

LOL WGHN....Brian, here's what Casey said about Rod Stewart...Next up is an artist who has had a lot of success with songs about intimate relations, You're in My Heart, Tonight's the Night and this song about an innocent young guy who falls in love with an older woman only to find out she is using him. the 29th biggest recording act of the decade, Rod Stewart. And he played Maggie May of course.

Maybe someone has mentioned this before, but On both the July 1974 show (Top singles acts of 70's so far) and the July 1978 show (Top acts of the 70's), Hour 2 starts with the same song, The Temptations with Papa Was a Rolling Stone. It was #26 in 1974 and #27 in 1978. Severely edited in 1978 and probably so in 1974 as well. Looks like a handful of songs were played in both shows, but that looks like the only one played at the same point in the hour (but not quite the same position).

I forgot. Did anybody listen to WHNN to hear what AT40 show they played since they didn't post the cue sheet? I'm assuming 1978.

I'm surprised that Larry didn't mention that "Who Are You?" is also the theme song for CSI.

This sucks my local station KLOU is playing last weeks episode. It was worse at WUPE (Whoopee FM) in western Mass. During "Kiss You All Over," there was a glitch in the automation, and sister station WBEC (current pop) bled in over it! I escaped to WORC-FM, closer to Beantown, and only missed a couple of songs. Semi-related: Back in 1975, there was a trade-paper ad for Watermark in which Casey (or someone lookin' a lot like him) is seen chowin' down on what the ad suggests is a hamburger... given his personal tastes, I doubt there really was beef in that roll... does anyone here know of a place online that has a crop of Casey from that ad?

This sucks my local station KLOU is playing last weeks episode. I heard that too--they are my primary source for the 70's shows each week. So lame when stations do that.

I was curious about that, too, so I got myself up for a bit to find out. I turned the radio on just to hear what turned out to be: Casey's outro to "You Needed Me". ...yeah, they did '78 this week. I promptly went back to sleep, though, cause I'd been up late last night and was too tired to stay up for more.

I'm actually excited about next week's 71 show. I'm not a big fan of early 71, but I LOVE the Summer of 71...Lots and lots of all time classics!!!!!!!!! Too bad they will play the shortened version of "Beginnings" ..That's one of my all time favorites!!!!!! Along with many, many others on the countdown. Was "Colour My World" b side to "Beginnings" ever played on AT40 other than LDD or extra?

Perhaps Pete would have copy or on Google Books.

Summer '71 is my favorite time for music, ever. Such a mix of stuff that I love - Take Me Home, Country Roads, Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, Indian Reservation, Beginnings, Draggin' the Line, great show!
