Cool; I've been wanting to hear this one because of all the interesting chart movements (notably the McCartney's 12-1 jump.) Eight debut songs is as many as we'll hear in a Casey 70s/80s AT40 (there was an October 1975 show, guest hosted by Wink Martindale, with nine.) Assuming the ORS list is accurate and there aren't any extras in the original broadcast (there's no link to the cue sheet from Charis Music Group), I'll go ahead and predict these extras: "Superstar"-The Carpenters "Sweet City Woman"-The Stampeders "I've Found Someone of My Own"-The Free Movement No original extras in this one. Just so happens to be the first show with no extras in AT40 history.

I specifically sought out and acquired the 1971 show many years ago as it is one of the best shows of all-time IMHO. Three of the top six songs are in my list of favorite recordings of all-time. The entire countdown is filled with one classic after another. I may have even helped Mr. McCartney leap up to #1 this week as I was one of the many people who purchased this single shortly after it was released.

You owning the show notwithstanding, sounds you are just as excited as Brain to hear this show. GRRRRRRRR!! The one time I want WORC to play the OEs, they don't. Sat mornings is a bad time to catch OEs. They are few and far between on these stations. Ok, my hunch was right. WWZW in Lynchburg, VA is a new station and so I had a hunch that the OE info was not available yet. Well they DO play the OEs. Heard the first interview and will hear the second at the end of this hour. Will send pizzzza a pm since this is on the wrong thread for the station info. Wow that was revealing. Casey had the idea for a LDD way back in 1970 when they started. They should have listened to him a lot more than they did. Wonder if they had done that from the beginning whether they would have gone to 4 hours any earlier than they did.

Is that awkward edit that I just heard on Summer Nights (on Solid Gold FM's broadcast) a Premiere one or an original one.

Thanks jdelachjr2002 for clearing up the extras for this week. I have this show on hard drive. Just to make sure I had recorded it from KKLZ (my terrestrial station - with best sound quality of any source I use), I pulled it in to Sound Forge and reviewed it. I thought maybe I missed the extras somehow but I did hear the LDD interviews you mention. Did not hear "Who Are You", but it's probably there. I'm sure I recorded this from KKLZ. I can tell by the sound and the visual waveform (real consistent vs. the internet stream waveforms which bounce all over the place). Anyway great. No need to re-record. Will see how WRIP has been faring lately for the 80s show. But will still record a backup on WFMX at 10PM PST. They play all the extras.Looks like I'll get a couple of weeks off from 70s since 1971 is too early for me. Most tunes were still in mono on the AT40 broadcasts from that time. We'll see.

One of the things I love about looking through the boards is the way all of us talk up our favorite years. Personally I loved last week with 1979.
I think next week's 1971 show's lineup is great, but I don't share the romance of a show including Saturday Morning Confusion at all, or the lesser songs Rain Dance, Bangla Desh, Stick Up, Go Down Gamblin, Maybe Tomorrow, I Woke Up In Love This Morning....all by artists whose 1970s output I love. I will agree though on Liar and the Dramatics !
Just one man's opinion, as we all have our favorites !

There ya go Brian.....if you scream loud enough, someone will listen........1970 on SXM this week and 1971 on Premiere next, life is good huh! Yeah I'm glad they're playing it, but your comment was not really necessary. I just wanted to hear a late July or early August 1971 AT40 countdown, where they offer "Maggie May" by Rod Stewart as an extra. Or failing those weeks, the countdown where the world was introduced to Rod Stewart (i.e., the week "Maggie May" debuted in the top 40), if only to hear Casey's introduction of this "new" star. So. anybody know how Casey introduced "Maggie May" on Aug. 28, 1971? Brian

BTW -- My guess for extras, unless they're identical to the 2007 airing:
* "I've Found Someone of My Own" by Free Movement. * "Sweet City Woman" by the Stampeders.
and a crazy third one, which was this week's No. 3 country hit and on its way to No. 1:
* "Easy Loving" by Freddie Hart.

But I am more sorry about not being able to answer your question since I heard that show last year. Maybe pizzzza can help you out. He listens to SXM where that aired and he records shows.

Ok - just listened back to see what Casey said. Intro: "Here's a double-sided hit from an album called 'Every Picture Tells A Story'. It's the #4 best selling LP in the nation this week by Rod Stewart...'Maggie May', backed with 'Reason To Believe'." Outro: "Rod Stewart...first week on at #36...'Maggie May'." So, it was very uneventful announcement to the party for Rod Stewart...

I'm actually excited about next week's 71 show. I'm not a big fan of early 71, but I LOVE the Summer of 71...Lots and lots of all time classics!!!!!!!!! Too bad they will play the shortened version of "Beginnings" ..That's one of my all time favorites!!!!!! Along with many, many others on the countdown.
