I'm also disappointed that we haven't had a 1971 countdown in ages; I was hoping for the week in which 'Indian Reservation' rose to #1 in its 16th week on the chart, which I do believe was the slowest climb ever to #1. Also, the #1 album of the year in 1971 was the soundtrack to 'Jesus Christ, Superstar', according to both Billboard & CashBox. An even better week would be 9/4/71. That's when there were 8 debuts (very rare) and "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" jumped to #1 from #12. Your wish will come true....just be patient.....

BTW, does anyone know when the last time was that Premiere played a show for the 3rd time - 70's and 80's? I can't remember it happening since I started listening in mid-2010... I think this shows just how significant the long distance dedication feature was for AT40. We all know the massive amount of mail that it generated from the many comments Casey has made in various shows. The initial idea of counting down the nation's top 40 hits will stand as the best reason for the existence of AT40. But the LDD feature has to be easily the best idea AT40 came up with since it began. So this show that has the first LDD played coupled with the additional interviews by Casey makes this as historic as the first or last shows IMO and thus, worthy of being aired every other year.

Prediction for next week's show...I am so sure of this one that I won't even bother with a second guess this week (and did Pizzzza give it away? ): First guess: 9/4/71

If next week's show is 9/4/71 won't that be the second week in row there has been a repeated show?

Just curious for AT40 fans on the east coast....is anyone hearing any possibility of station(s) pre-empting the show because of Hurricane Irene coverage?

I just have a quick question, is it possible for someone to send me the first hour of the 8/19/1979 show? I missed it last week and I won't be around to pick it up on WMGN this weekend either. Thanks.

michael, if you are talking about top 40 hits from any album, SNF is at best tied for the most with those 7. Tied with MJ's Thriller and Bad Lps, sister Janet's Rhythm Nation 1814 Lp and Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA Lp. But after initially saying that SNF generated 7 top 40 hits, Casey later said Urban Cowboy and Footloose were tied for most top 40 hits from a movie soundtrack with 6. Personally, I think it has the 7 top 40 hits since they would not have been hits if not for the movie. bigal, yes the 8/26/78 show is airing for the third time. michael, if you are talking about most hits in the top 40 in any given week, then SNF definitely has the record. The show in which that record was set was played this year when Disco Inferno and Boogie Shoes both debuted giving SNF 6 hits in the 40 that week. I was thinking soundtrack but you seem to had all the bases covered.

For the 80s, both 4/25/87 and 6/4/83 have been aired three times - in 07, 08, and 09. Need to double-check for specific dates, but that much I remember from my list.

Not only that, but keep in mind that stations are dropping or adding the show every couple weeks it seems like. My local station didn't air the 70s back then (at least I wasn't aware of it), so it's new to a lot of people including me.

Eight debut songs is as many as we'll hear in a Casey 70s/80s AT40 (there was an October 1975 show, guest hosted by Wink Martindale, with nine.) Assuming the ORS list is accurate and there aren't any extras in the original broadcast (there's no link to the cue sheet from Charis Music Group), I'll go ahead and predict these extras: "Superstar"-The Carpenters "Sweet City Woman"-The Stampeders "I've Found Someone of My Own"-The Free Movement
