Regarding the Tom Clay record, the part that always gets to me is when the man asks a little child (Don't know whether it is a boy or a girl) about bigotry and segregation, and the kid keeps saying "I don't know", but when he gets to prejudice, the kid replies "I think it's when somebody's sick." Boy, did that little kid hit the nail right on the head when he/she said that!!!!

Another controversial song was Once You Understand by Think. In a recent AT 40 we also heard two protests by motown legends Temptations, Ball of Confusion and Edwin Starr, War.

Jeff, you probably already knew that War is a Temptations song that was going to be released instead of Ball of Confusion but Motown thought it was too strong a song to be released by the Temps. So it was reworked for label mate Edwin Starr.

Thanks! Yes I heard that and may have to "You Tube" the song by the Temptations to see if they have that version of War.

I'm also disappointed that we haven't had a 1971 countdown in ages; I was hoping for the week in which 'Indian Reservation' rose to #1 in its 16th week on the chart, which I do believe was the slowest climb ever to #1.
Also, the #1 album of the year in 1971 was the soundtrack to 'Jesus Christ, Superstar', according to both Billboard & CashBox.

Do we think next week's show will be 8/26/78? Would be cool - I would be interested to hear the first LDD...wonder if Premiere will double repeat a show for the first time in a while...

Cool; I guessed this one right.
Guesses for extras: "Who Are You"-The Who "I Love the Night Life"-Alicia Bridges "Surrender"-Cheap Trick (not a top 40 hit, but should've been)

Hi 40fan, Worst yet...Here in Houston, AT40-The 70s is on an AM station that is extremely hard to pick up and has poor, horrible quality. During the fall and sometimes winter, it pre-empts AT40-The 70s for UT football games. No station here has even picked up AT40-The 80s. Spoke to a PM about his station picking up AT40-The 80s and it looks like he isn't interested. After 5 years, still completely dependant on Internet streams as well. I am having serious concerns about AT40-The 70s becoming an endangered program! My local station, WSEN in suburban Syracuse, New York has switched to AT40-The 80s. Their General Manager sent me a cordial email response to my question about it; saying he feels the 80s version is more fitting for their overall music mix. This now makes two stations in my area that have dropped 70s. And I have been reading reports on this board about similar changes in other markets. I relayed the complete text of the response to pizzza so he could update his station listings thread. So now, after almost five years of enjoying AT40-The 70s, I am completely dependant on internet streams to be able to hear it.

However, the first and second extra slots are filled by Casey interviewing the writer and recipient of the very first LDD. It was that same order in 2009 when the show last aired.

Predictions for the extras: She's Always A Woman-BILLY JOEL Come Together-AEROSMITH You Never Done It Like That-THE CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE Already confirmed the extras here (since they were same as the ones from 2009). You were completely wrong anyway.

This is more historic than I thought it was and I heard it in 1978 but have forgotten about Casey interviewing anybody.

Go back to page 133 of this thread where the interview segments were first mentioned by Pete.

Thanks Jimmy, I had a hunch it was something like that. I see this show has aired in every odd year so far. No surprise there.
BTW, I saw this comment yesterday on youtube while listening to Love Come Down....
I remember my girl cousin rushing through the door, package in hand, this urgent look on her face. I was trying to see what the matter was. She attacks the record player, pulls a long play single out and it was Evelyn...it was my first experience of her. She sang about her momma not understanding...how it was a shame how she felt about this boy and well I felt something to.
I think most of you know what song she is talking about..it is in this week's show.........
