Prediction time for next week's show...sounds like some are chomping at the bit to hear that first 1970 show of the year, but the show would have to be 8/8/70, which was just played last year. I am going to guess that we get the 8/22/70 show in two weeks and if we hear a repeat show next week, it will be from '71. However, Premiere has yet to play a show from August of the year that has the 2nd longest drought after '71...
First guess: 8/3/74 Second guess: 8/7/71

Briguy, even though the show I'm predicting for next week is a rerun, I'm going to make you happy.
Prediction for next weekend's show: August 7, 1971 (Backup prediction: August 10, 1974)

I'm working on some sort of hint for the program airing the weekend of August 6-7. But to give you something to consider now, I'll point out that the show contains a song by Three Dog Night. That narrows the possibilities down to a program from 1970, 1971, 1974 or 1975.

For history buffs, if it were the show from August 10, 1974, it would be the day after President Nixon's resignation...not sure that would factor into Premiere's decision, but a fun fact to chew on.

Predictions for the extras: Still The One-ORLEANS Lowdown-BOZ SCAGGS With Your Love-JEFFERSON STARSHIP The second half of 1976 was a remarkably good time for the Top 40. I believe Still The One is right up there with Oh Pretty Woman when it comes to "oldies that have retained a high percentage or maybe even surpassed the popularity they had when they were new". In other words, Still The One has legs!

I don't know what show is going to be played so I am not trying to throw anybody off. But last year 3 of the 5 1970 shows played were played on dates that correpsonded with the chart date. And one of those such shows was the 8/8/70 chart date show. So that would eliminate 1970 from consideration much to the chagrin of some people I'm sure...lol. Unless they go with the broadcast dated show which is the 8/15/70 chart date. I'll let you guys do the guessing. Ah no one wants to guess so I will say it is a week in which the Bee Gees hit #1. Actually that sounds likes a clue....lol

A couple of things to mention: 1. This week's countdown has one of Hervard's favorite songs at #1. Ah, blow it out your mule! Too bad they couldn't have held out another week for 1976, for a song that was indeed one of my personal faves from that year at #1. Instead, next week's show will be a rare show in which my favorite critique comment is used for the #1 song - I wonder if that's the only such song in the countdown? I guess we'll find out this weekend...

WHNN is airing the 7/31/1976 show this week:
Optional extras are: "Still The One" - Orleans "One" - Three Dog Night (original AT40 extra; nobody thought about that?!?) "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" - Blue Oyster Cult

Speaking of one of Hervard's fave songs , does anyone remember how in the top 100 of 1983 which I heard part of recently, AT40 cut out the second verse of Too Shy? It was that way when I heard it originally so I know it was not a Premiere edit. They cut out the second verse of "Too Shy"? Too bad they didn't cut out the first verse as well. Or better yet, skip it altogether and just mention its chart position (a la Rick Dees)? ;D

Ok, let's find out who actually likes the #1 song from July 31st, 1976. Since some people myself included do not like to know what songs are on upcoming countdowns, I will not list it. I know it anyway. But so far myself, hervard and skuckatoom are on the do not like list.........how bout the rest of you?!! As to Too Shy, I went to youtube and checked out the 8 minute 12" version.

I happen to LOVE that No. 1 song from that week in 1976. Always reminds me of that summer we went down to Southern California, and what great times we had. A song like that sure beats the heck out of some of that stuff they're putting out now. Just expressing my opinion, people.

But that would require a little work. (And it's really too hot!) So I'll just tell you that, surprisingly, there were five songs on the Cash Box Top 40 chart dated August 1, 1970 that never reached Billboard's Top 40. And that's the chart date we get next weekend.
