OK, I have a confession to make. For this weekends 1971 countdown an error got through. At position 22 is Alice Cooper and Eighteen. When I was mixing that segment, I grabbed the wrong piece of Casey audio which was the outro for the Carpenters For All We Know. Unfortunately, QC didn't catch the mistake either and it went out to the stations like that early this week. However, I alerted Toby Petty to the problem, fixed the segment, and they uploaded a revised copy of that segment. How many stations will get the revision vs. the number that will just air what they got earlier this week? Can't answer that, but you could be on the lookout for which stations air the corrected v. the incorrect version. Awww... Here I thought I had caught a big early era blunder!! It's even mixed into the final note of the song: The seventh week in the top ten for the Carpenters and "For All We Know". I heard it on the Albino Rodent on Thursday so I tuned in again this morning to KGNT in Logan to see if I heard it right, and there it was again. Wow, Ken, I didn't know that when you remixed these old monos that you cut and pasted and overdubbed Casey into tracks like that! I thought you were just taking the original track and adding levels to the other speaker to assimilate a stereo sound. Can you tell us more about the process?

^^ Doesn't seem like most stations updated the segment with #22...holding out for later scheduled shows. Maybe WMGN might have it.

Here's a video I put together several years ago about this process. I've gotten more software tools since then but this gives a pretty good overview of how it works. AT40 mono2stereo process

Ken - might you be able to post the corrected segment on WTOJ demand?

WTOJ is still in Xmas mode, so I guess that means my dream of a Superized 1978 is out the window. Hope WTOJ didn't drop the AT40 70's/80's shows.

Optional extras for this week's shows: 4/22/78Hour #1: "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" - Meat Loaf (#46) Hour #2: "Take A Chance On Me" - ABBA (#69; highest debut) Hour #3: "Tumbling Dice" - Linda Ronstadt (#70) (no change to the '78 show extas) No Bill Withers extra, maybe if 1972 is the A show for the next weekend (April 25-26, 2020) one of the OPTIONAL EXTRAS could be "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers. Premiere's updated optional extras for 4/22/78: Hour #1: "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" - Meat Loaf (#46) Hour #2: "Take A Chance On Me" - ABBA (#69; highest debut) Hour #3: "Lovely Day" - Bill Withers (NR)

^^ Doesn't seem like most stations updated the segment with #22...holding out for later scheduled shows. Maybe WMGN might have it. KWVF in Sonoma county CA had the corrected version.

Hey good for KWVF! I've listened to EIGHTEEN - on 6 different stations and none made the change - all said was the Carpenters.

This 1978 show is hard to listen to, these songs are butchered. Par for the course in 1978, not surprising they switched to four hours in the fall.

As predicted, WPNC is running the '78 show. Also as predicted, WPAC played it and it's available on their player.

Edited shows are par for the course-I've known that for a long time.

AT40 mono2stereo processThat's very cool to see. Thanks for sharing that. So now I know you aren't just tweaking the original mono but instead completely replacing whatever you can with stereo versions and putting the puzzle back together again. That's a lot of work and thank you for doing that!

Goof of the Week: aside from the Alice Cooper outro mentioned previously, this weeks show contained something that happened a number of times over the years, and is an all-time pet peeve of mine: Casey's penchant for mispronouncing "Gulf" as "Golf" -- "from the Golf of Mexico to the Golf of Alaska" he said on this week's show. For some reason it was a common thing back in the day, so I guess that's why no one ever corrected him, but man it drives me up the wall. (Oh and WMGN had the Carpenters/Cooper goof left in just now)
