For 11/11/78, I'll go with: "Part-Time Love" (#63; debuted) "Fire" (#86; debuted) "Too Much Heaven" (NR) "Ooh Baby Baby" (#59, debuted) I'll go with the same four. To make my prediction a bit different, I changed the order to: Part-Time Love Ooh Baby Baby Fire Too Much Heaven

That means no 1979 show from 11/24 or 12/1. Wondering if 11/17 might get played, which last aired in 2012. Methinks that they might have trouble remastering both shows. I can't think of any other logical explanation of those shows being avoided like the plague.

Wonder if that was an issue for the two back-to-back August 1975 shows that were untouched until this year (even longer than the 1979 ones, as it wasn't until late 2010 when the four hour 70s countdowns entered regular rotation.) Finally this summer we got 8/9/75; maybe 8/2 next year?

Yeah that might be a good guess as to why they haven't played either of those--the only instance of two consecutive weeks that haven't been played yet. I'm wondering if there will be two 1979 shows still yet to come. It would be odd to only have one 'A' show from 1979 (or any year for that matter) for the entire last half of the year.

For 1978: * "I'm Every Woman" -- Chaka Khan. * "Promises" -- Eric Clapton. * "My Best Friend's Girl" -- The Cars. I'd guess that "My Best Friend's Girl" would be a no-go since it was played for the 9/30/78 show as the tribute extra to Ric Ocasek. I could be wrong, but it doesn't seem likely.

Why is it that the "B" word is censored from "Bad Blood" but it's okay in "The "B" is Back"? Silly! I'm guessing the rationale is that, with the Elton hit, it's in the title, and also he's referring to himself (as opposed to denigrating someone else). Even famously conservative WABC, which had banned "My Ding-a-Ling" 2 years before, and which would even have problems with "Kiss You All Over" (!) in 1978, left Elton's B's alone (but they did delete the line about sniffing glue). How about that other Mike Chapman-produced one-hit wonder from fall '78, Nick Gilder and "Hot Child in the City"? Was WABC okay with that one?

Below is a link to an article I wrote this past weekend. It looks at four-week moving averages of the # of debuts in the Top 40 throughout the 70s. The signal-to-noise ratio is plenty low, but I think there are some semi-interesting things that might be gleaned from it. I was inspired to look into this in part by the nine-debut show on 10/11/75 (all nine of those songs were still on this past weekend's 10/25/75 show), and the work piggybacks on something I wrote last October about the period from June 76 to August 88 (there's a link to that, which includes more of an explanation of what I'm doing, in my article). musicofmylife.net/2019/10/26/american-top-pastblast-10-25-75-jigsaw-sky-high/The link goes to my personal blog. I'll remove this post if it's deemed inappropriate, but I hope that a few folks might find what I put together worthwhile.

Very nice work, CT. I will pass this article on to a chart-number-crunching acquaintance who has written books on the topic. He will be very intrigued by your findings.

I have both shows; been doing a 1979 marathon this year, so both will be coming up in the next few weeks (currently on 10/27). Will keep my ears open for anything that might be suspect in that realm. ETA: I remember the 12/1 show had at least one production error in it, but that should be an easy fix.

WMGN is going with 10/30/71 this weekend.

That, or — given “My Sharona” is also on that show — we’ll hear the “Top 50 Hits Of the 1970s” special. Brian
