Prediction for next week's show: 1st Guess - 10/30/71 2nd Guess - 10/25/75 According to post by Pete B. a few weeks back, there is but one 1971 weekly countdown remaining on the schedule for 2019. I'll guess that happens next week. I'll also guess that means there's a very good chance that the year-end special will be the Top 40 of 1971 this time around (a real stretch I know, since it's by far the one that's been played the longest ago of all 1970's year enders). I looked it up and 1971 hasn't been the year end show since 2008 (I thought it had been more recently). So that's a decent prediction. The question is if we get a second year end show the following week. In 2008-09 the 1971 year ender was followed by a special originally broadcast in mid-1974. 1973 and 1979 also had only one week YE countdowns: in 2011 the year end show was one weekend of 1973 and nothing else, while in 2016-17 it was those two shows on consecutive weekends. One of them will probably be the B offering if 1971 is the A. If we get an October 1971 A (10/23/71 could also be used), then this would be the second year in a row with no regular November or December shows from that year.

Optional extras from this show's previous airing (October 24-25, 2015): Hour #1: "Love Machine (Part 1)" - The Miracles (#90; debuted) Hour #2: "That's The Way (I Like It)" - KC & The Sunshine Band (#50; highest debut) Hour #3: "Heat Wave" - Linda Ronstadt (was at #12 that week but Casey played the B-side "Love Is A Rose") No apparent reason to make any changes, but you never know...

"Love Is A Rose" was written by Neil Young.

There's an ad in this issue about Tim Moore's "Second Avenue," a fine song that made its AT40 debut this week in a cover by Art Garfunkel, but could not push past #34.

Mainly because it was 'battling' with Moore's original, which debuted the same week as Art's version--9/21--and reached #58. Moore's original spent 5 weeks on the 100, vs. 8 for Garfunkel's cover version. One of the rare occasions in which I really like both versions.

I was browsing through the 1974 Billboard issue for this week and one of it’ Top Singles picks was Nobody by The Doobie Brothers. It was a re-release and never became a big hit.A few weeks later Black Water was released. It was the B-side and Another Park Another Sunday was the A side(I actually prefer this song over Black Water)

After that Warners tried "Nobody" from their debut album, then got lucky with "Black Water."

Hoggy, 1pm EDT Sunday should also be a great 1974 bet. Any other 1974 candidates left for today or tomorrow? Thanks

Has Ken Martin announced which show WTOJ will be playing? Since Ken provided the stereo conversion for 1970, I would assume that show. Good point ... and they pretty much always play the 'A' show.
