If I remember correctly, the countdown from 8/27/77 featured the Elvis Presley tribute. Indeed it did. The first show after Elvis' death was 8/20/77, but that show would've been tracked on approximately August 10th, almost a week before Elvis died. 8/27/77 would've been tracked in the days following his death. And unlike the John Lennon obit show of 12/13/80, AT40 did not send out a supplemental update disc...but you have to wonder if this event had an influence on how they decided to handle the Lennon obit. For instance, did the staff hear about it from listeners who wondered why nothing was said about Elvis' passing the week it happened?

Plus, one of Elvis' most forgotten (and maybe most forgettable?) singles of the '70s, "I'm Leavin'", is peaking at #36.

Absolutely loving the 8/21/71 show right now on WSQL. One of the early shows I have distinct memories of listening to when it first aired in '71. Weird hearing the chopped-up 45 edit of "Won't Get Fooled Again", as it is never played anymore. That's how I was used to hearing it back then, and I remember buying the Decca single right around the time of this show.

For anyone keeping track, there are two songs on the 8/28/71 chart where titles were not sung within the lyrics – Indian Reservation and Double Barrel.

So we will get to hear the Elvis obituary next weekend. Looking forward to this show, not necessarily for Elvis, but for several great songs in the countdown. The last week in August almost has to be 8/31/74...a rare case of a "slam dunk" if there is such a thing with the AT40 classic shows.

WPAC will likely go with 8/14/76 this weekend. They did.

Might be fun to follow while we can, until Premiere or someone cracks down on it, if they can.
