"Theme from 'Shaft'" by Isaac Hayes was the # 1 song on 11/27/71-One of the background singers was Telma Hopkins who was a member of Tony Orlando & Dawn-Per air personality/author Norm N.Nite,Hopkins was a long time member of Hayes' back up group Hot Buttered Soul.

WVWP seems to be airing last week 1970's AT40
I missed WPNC since I was busy shopping yesterday, I'm listening WPTY HD-2 for 1971 show. WTOJ today I believe was Christmas, same for WPAC.

Could you explain this a little more? Thanks. Oh I edited the post. For WPNC commercial, theyre advertising charismusicgroup collection for AT40 Casey Kasem era. I hope I made it clear.
It is also a link on WPNC's website. I clicked it. It's a listed on ebay for $1500. Sounds expensive on the surface but the amount of episodes it breaks down to just over $1 a show.

I don’t know if it was acknowledged already. A related recent death who helped make Shaft (both the movie and tv series) a success in the early 70s: Richard Roundtree died last month Oct. 24 at the age of 81 from pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles. His occasional contributions to the music world were an album released in 1972 called ‘The Man From Shaft’ and 2 additional singles: a)Goodnight My Love c/w Pledging My Love (1973) & b)This Magic Moment c/w So Much in Love covers (1976)

Just saw a hint this weekend's AT40: The 70's show is from December 4, 1976. The #1 record that week "Tonight's The Night" was banned from a number of radio stations for questionable lyrics to the "Come Inside......." verse.

Well there continues to be more unfortunate editing on the 3-hour 70's shows (especially noticeable on the 11/17/73 and 11/27/71 shows, which didn't have such edits in their previous airings). Once again, commercial breaks in odd places and several of the split logos, teasers, etc. removed. Too bad, because it has taken away from the authenticity of these shows and therefore diminished their appeal IMHO -- much like the edits that SXM has been doing to the 70's on 7 airings for several years now.

I understand what you’re saying. I’ll always be an advocate for AT40 shows that are complete, undoctored and played as originally produced. Fortunately, there are many who choose to preserve them in that way. And even though Premiere and XM present the shows using their own controls, there are still numerous reasons to be grateful that vintage AT40 countdowns continue to be broadcast decades later.

I can't recall any station that would've normally played the song 'banning' it back in '76, but I do seem to recall from my avid AM nighttime listening back then a few who edited out that line. If memory serves, KOMA in OKC (whose 50K watt signal covered the western half of the U.S. between sundown and sunrise) was one such station.
