Premiere is only distributing the Casey hosted shows at this time (with the sole exception of when they aired the Dick Clark-hosted show from 1972 about a month after Clark's death, but was the rarest of exceptions... )

And not only that, 1985 was just played a few weeks ago! Grrr... can the relics (nickname on SXM's 80s channel) play an early 80s countdown for once? Maybe next week hopefully?

And the later 80s parade goes on. At least this one likely won't copy Casey, since January 1987 was played last week by Premiere, and it's been three months since they last did a show from the closest preceding timeframe (late 1986.)

It seems that the regular 80's channel playlist is mostly MTV era stuff, so maybe they are now sticking to that for the countdowns. Personally I'd like the regular playlist to include all of the 80's hits and not just ones that were big MTV songs.

I wonder if SXM will be emphasizing later 80's shows going forward, to appeal toward a slowly changing demographic audience. I, for one, hope not, as I prefer listening to shows in that decade from 1980 through 1986.

Next week's not AT40, 1987 Well, I guess I was complaining to Sirius on this site as well as on Facebook that they never have done a Dec. 1986/Jan. 1987 countdown. They probably read the posts and decided now is a good time to do 1987 for next weekend. It looks like it is going to happen. They probably were originally consider a different year, particularly a very early 80s year (1980, 81 maybe). So, I guess I am the blame for this one.

I'm not aware of them having dropped any years altogether, though we'll have to see. At the very least they should keep playing countdowns from 1982-84, as those years were in the midst of the "classic MTV" era that forms the heart of their regular playlist. My impression of their playlist is that the start and end of the decade get short shrift outside of the countdown; 1988-89 hits tend to get overlooked almost as much as 1980-81.

Well, their Facebook page says they intend to get every single year of this decade several times a year. I'll believe that when I see it...

You're likely not alone with your request for an early 1987 show, or perhaps it was pure coincidence. Regardless, welcome to this communal site.

Specifically, the 1/31/87 top 40 is being featured this weekend.

Specifically, the 1/31/87 top 40 is being featured this weekend. Which is a show that Premiere has never featured, so that's good. Plus the last show they played chronologically preceding this was October 1986, a nice change after several too-close-together charts. Never could stand the #1 song, though.

Well Alan said next week's countdown is 1983, I hope he is right. It is time for an early 80s countdown!!

I wish they would do 1980 or 1981 instead. I don't understand why there are suddenly doing back to back years. First, 1985 and 1986 during the first of couple weeks of the new year (same countdown). Then they did 1983 followed by 1982?? Really doesn't make sense.

Casey Lite? Is that a radio station playing a Casey show?

Casey Lite? Is that a radio station playing a Casey show? No, it's a nickname used here for this SXM countdown, which plays top 40 hits from a given week in the 1980s as Casey did, but without his stories or commentary. Instead it uses commentary from the former MTV VJ's/current 80s on 8 DJ's, which is current but not always accurate.
