Nice to meet you, pkrier. I agree with you totally on all points. I've only had SiriusXM since October 2011, so I don't really know what was played prior to that, but here's what I've figured out... They seem to cycle through each year once every 10 weeks or so. They rarely deviate from their pattern, even when it means playing a January show shortly after December of the previous year. The main problem, though, is that it causes each year to eventually repeat every 50 weeks -- and since a year contains 52 weeks, we get the same time frames covered year after year. This is why almost all of the 1987 and 1988 shows played in 2012 were repeated in 2013. They just can't figure out how to do it any other way. I have a feeling it's way more likely that they don't want to (or don't care to) figure it out.

And they've ignored an early 80s countdown for more than 5 weeks! C'mon SXM, get with the program!

They could certainly stand to take a lesson from Premiere in year scheduling. Yeah, '82 and now '87 are up again on Premiere after just being featured right before the 1981 Top 100, but not only will there not be carryover in songs played, 1/16/82 and 1/17/87 both come at decent enough intervals following 11/7/81 and 11/15/86 a couple months ago.

Hey everybody, first time poster here. I read this forum a lot to see what countdown 80s on 8 will be playing. Anyway, I have a quick question. (I'm sure I can get this answered elsewhere, but I land on this page via google search) Where can I find streaming audio of Casey's countdowns?
Thanks a lot! I've been trying to find a reliable spot for a while. Remember before Sirius and XM merged? Sirius used to play Casey's countdowns every weekend and I loved it.
I enjoy reading through this thread. Nice to see other 80's fans like me!

Go to the AT40 Classics thread. There's a list, continuously maintained, of stations playing Premiere's 1970s and 1980s AT40s, with streaming links when available.

I hope we get an early 80s countdown next week - been a long time...

Next week's not AT40; 1985 And so they continue with charts that originally were counted down close to each other; that's just five weeks after they did December 1984. But it doesn't seem as bad as it otherwise might since in between they've played even closer Dec-Jan pairings from 1985-86 and 1988-89. **Incidentally, we probably get the same chart from Casey and Premiere this weekend (1/26/85.)

Agree about the potential duplication of charts presented by Premiere and SXM. I'll listen to the SXM show as it's easier to access that with my subscription; plus I enjoy the intros offered by the former VJ quartet (though occasionally inaccurate).

Not only that, but the last two weeks of shows (January 1986 and 1989) were duplicated by Rick Dees.

The episode that featured Clarence Clemons as special guest?

The episode that featured Clarence Clemons as special guest? Yes, that was Rick's countdown from 1/11/86, and it was up at the same time the VJ's did a countdown from the same week, though with a different chart--one week after counting down a chart from a week earlier. The first half of January was a great time if you really love late 1985/early 1986 music, and that's without a Casey show from the same period.

Did somebody else fill in for Casey?

Charlie VanDyke typically filled in for Casey throughout the latter six years of his 80's run at AT40. Casey usually took a week or two off right after New Years.

I bet radio stations only air the Casey episodes and not the substitute.
