Next week's not AT40...1988 Thank goodness, because if they were to have gone with 1985 instead, we would have been stuck with a repeat from last year.

Next week's not AT40...1988 Thus duplicating Premiere's Casey offering. Well, at least I can skip it without missing much as I'll be away.

Next week's not AT40...1988 Thus duplicating Premiere's Casey offering. Well, at least I can skip it without missing much as I'll be away. On the other hand, this makes six whole months plus one week since the last time they've duplicated Premiere in any capacity (not since 9/4/82 last year) - they fell just shy of six whole months in 2020-21 (Hallo-weekend to mid-April) and 2021-22 (end of August to mid-February), so this is a new record for having steered clear for so long. That said, as I mentioned last week, 88 for next week works out better on this side as then 85 can follow (while Premiere is overdue for 82). If that doesn't happen... Separate factoid: 3/12/88 was also the first chart week to be straight-on-duplicated by Big 40 following the switch to Billboard-only in 2012. Shortly before that, they did 2/21/87 the week after Premiere did - and as fate would have it, fast forward to the present time: Premiere did that 87 show two weeks ago.

3/12/88 was last done in 2013. Is this the longest gap between repeats?

3/12/88 was last done in 2013. Is this the longest gap between repeats? Tied with 7/12/80 and 7/30/83 last year. Only breakable if we get any of the following this year: 3/15/86, 3/21/81, 4/19/80, 4/27/85, 6/6/81, 6/16/84, 7/6/85, 8/8/81, 9/2/89, 9/8/84, 9/26/87, 10/1/83, 10/17/81, 10/30/82, 11/10/84, 12/17/83. (In case it's not clear, those are the weeks that have aired in 2012 and not again since, making it an 11-year gap if any of them return this year.) I am decidedly not advocating for that first one (as it would interfere with getting a new 85 in two weeks).

The On Demand airings of the Big 40 Countdown usually expire two weeks after their initial airing. Why is the Presidential 46 Countdown still available in On Demand right now, after that threshold (I anticipated it expiring after March 3)?

The writing on this show (assuming they actually use writers) never ceases to amuse me. Both Alan and Mark told the same exact story about Stray Cat Strut before and after the song played. Then Mark opted not to give away the #1 song when saying it kept Culture Club from the top, while Alan straight out said that Bob Seger was unable to hit the top thanks to Michael Jackson. Whatever...

I thought for sure it was going to be gone by now too but that might be why.

Whatever... I feel like it would take an actual effort (albeit a bad effort) to get in each other's way without having writers, more than I'd give them credit for putting up, so...at the very least, somebody writes this junk.

Not so much a writing issue as it would seem to be an editing issue. I envision it as all of the VJs prerecord all the same intros/outros, then someone comes in later, picks out which sound best and would be best placed before/after a song, and then selects which ones to use for the show. That's the only way I can think of where they'd both be telling the exact same story for the exact same countdown on either end of a song.

Does this mean the expiration date for the regular Big 40 shows will shift from late-Friday to late-Monday going forward, or will the expiration date remain unchanged?

Next week it'll be all about 1985!
Also Mark was absent this week, which makes this the second 1988 show in a row where one of them was vacationing.

Now with all ten years gone through once, 1980 can kick off the next round as well as nothing from the second half of March has yet been done.

Likely date of the show should be 3-16-85. I wonder if the VJs will call it a "St. Patrick's Day Show." I am pleased that all ten years were played before a year was repeated. Great work VJs.
