I was thinking it would be 1983. I am hoping that because of the Presidential Special, 1983 wasn't bypassed completely, and might be featured the following week after 1989.

I'm a little miffed that we really did miss out on a new chart date thanks to a needless special that they had to do apparently because two other decade channels did the same thing.

This isn't the first time such a thing has happened. The infamous Fourth of July weekend special in 2017 had a negative effect on that summer's chart schedule.

Obviously there was no announcement for next week but 1989 will probably be the best bet. I just hope this doesn't become a thing with the 80s-00s channels. I'm listening to the Back in the Day replay from 1990 on demand before it's taken down and they've added this weekend's show which is the Top 30 Hip Hop Hits of the 90's, so chances are the 80's have another special as well.

That was done just three years ago. And 1985 and 1988 are the only years that haven't been done. And 3/9/85 was done just last year. And 3/19/88 was featured just two years ago. This will be a rough next few weeks unless they switch the two years up. Why did that special have to throw such a monkey wrench at the schedule?

As Mike pointed out, it is less than 50% of the time when the VJ Countdown does all ten years without repeat in the first ten weeks of the year. So based on that, maybe one or two of the weeks done early last month may be repeated to allow new charts. Time will tell!

This isn't the first time such a thing has happened. The infamous Fourth of July weekend special in 2017 had a negative effect on that summer's chart schedule. You sure? I'm seeing that three out of the four July-premiered chart weeks ended up being first-time airings for that month (the lone outlier being 7/20/85 being done for the second straight year); with the special not being counted as its "premiere date" would have been June 30.

The one possibility of a saving grace here would be if it is instead 83-88-85, which would land on 3/12/88 and 3/16/85 - 88 would be a third-time play but hasn't been done in ten years, while 85 would be new. Meanwhile, 83 welcomes it second member of the Four Times Played Club (after 11/26 got there in 2021).

It's not obvious from looking at the final schedule, but here's how I remember it. Before the announcement of the special, they'd told us 1988 was on tap for that weekend. Meanwhile, we'd recently had a late May 1987 show and at the time August 1987 was untouched and was finally looking likely to appear. When the special pre-empted 1988, we expected it to be delayed a week but it remained MIA for a month. Come August, the week I was expecting 1987 we instead got a multiple-repeat chart from 1988 instead, and 1987 held off until September, making it the sixth year in a row for September 1987. Why yes, I do have way too much time on my hands, why do you ask?
