Don't know why they used the 9/19/87 chart - I'd hope they'd go for 9/26/87 as it was closer, but oh well...

Is it just me, or is SXM following this pattern? For the most part, the years go like this: 1983 1987 1982 1988 1984 1986 1981 1985 1989 1980 Basically, yes. They tend to stick to one pattern over and over, with only the occasional change. The last time the pattern was altered was in June. There are several problems with doing it this way, but they don't seem to care. The problems are: 1. The same years tend to get featured in the same months year after year. This week's 1987 chart, for example, was played last year, as was the last 1988 show that was played. 2. The January shows often feature charts that were 4-5 weeks after the December shows, as in they will play 1985 in December and 1986 in January. Apparently, nobody has been able to figure this one out. Apparently they go strictly by calendar year, like Premiere, which at times has played AT40s from January only a few weeks after one from the previous December, meaning that both countdowns have most of the same songs. Plus the SXM 8 countdown doesn't do year-end specials or have to work around other special or guest hosted shows, so it's even more likely than Premiere that they will play (for example) Dec. 1987/Jan. 1988 countdowns with near-identical sets of songs, as they can play any year at any time. This predictable rotation does have its virtues, though, as it mostly removes the problem of some years being played to death and others ignored for months.

This predictable rotation does have its virtues, though, as it mostly removes the problem of some years being played to death and others ignored for months. This is true, but as I noted above, given that a year is 52 weeks and each year comes up roughly every 10 weeks, they end up featuring the same years in the same months over and over.

This week's presentation is from October 2, 1982--words we'll probably never hear from Larry Morgan, as Casey had laryngitis that week and so Mark Elliot filled in for him.
If they adhere to the above rotation, the same will obviously be true next week, as it should be October 1988.

Next week's Copycat Casey....1984! They broke the pattern this time. Well, at least it shouldn't repeat Premiere nor BobbyMagicRadio... they're doing 1989 Hot 100 this weekend. Just wondering, have they ever changed their mind on what year to pick? Sometimes SXM7 changes their AT40 year mid week.

Next week's Copycat Casey....1984! That's ok; fall 1984 is more listenable than fall 1988, IMHO.

Next week's not AT40, as predicted 1988! Should you say, "Won't repeat Premiere"?

Next week's not AT40, as predicted 1988! And thus it includes a lot of songs that I wish Casey had counted down, except for the top 10 on TV and those that were on the Billboard top 40 at the beginning of August (or on the Radio & Records top 40 the following January.)

Speaking of Bobby Magic Radio, if you love the 80s, this is the place to be for the next 6+ days. Here's what he put on BMR's Facebook page: "The 1980's A-Z now airing! Every USA Top 40 hit played in Alphabetical order from A-Z! 6+ days of music from the 1980's!" www.justin.tv/bobbymagicradioThat's 2100+ songs to get through, which was what XM used to do prior to the merger. I should also note that live request shows will be going on hiatus for the time being as Mark Charvat will be having surgery tomorrow. That means the 80s A-Z program might be interrupted at times at some point during the week. Let's hope for a speedy recovery from him.

1986 is next week on SXM8. They are back on track. Which likely means they'll do two repeat countdowns in a row. Last week's 1988 show was a repeat, as were 3 out of the 4 1988 shows featured in 2013.

Tonight's show from 1986 starts ominously, with Alan Hunter talking about the '86 World Series and how poor Bill "Buckley" let the ball go through his legs.
Of course it was Bill Buckner.
