Would like to have had them wait another week or two on 1983, but this would at least be 10 weeks after the last show from that year, and also it won't be the same week as Casey--unlike in May when both SXM and Premiere did 1983 at the same time.

Yes at least they aren't repeating this week's Premiere show, plus the chart features a one-week wonder I really like that probably hasn't been played on there since the last time they did it.
1989 should follow after that one, as that one hasn't been done since the end of May.

I was thinking if Nina were absent from the VJ Big 40 Countdown for even ONE week, or stopped doing the countdown shows entirely for any reason, SXM-80s would arrange for Martha Quinn to take Nina's place for that show (even if it means breaching her current contract with iHeartRadio), like how they had her take Mark's place on that February 1980 show awhile back. I'm disappointed that didn't happen for this week's 1988 show. I never thought SXM-80s could actually pull-off a full countdown show with just the two male original VJs, knowing the amount of singles that'll just go unmentioned by them because of there being less talk breaks than usual. But then again, what else could they have done besides not doing a VJ Big 40 show at all this week, or even having Downtown Julie Brown perform double duty (doing the VJ Big 40 and the Back in the Day Replay in the same week)?
And besides, when exactly was the last time Nina missed a Big 40 show?

I wish they could have at least used more number jingles than the ones they usually use. I'm not a fan of the "No Nuttins'".

I didn't really look through this perspective last week, but all things considered, 1983 really was the best option here - skip 83, and the next best options become 89, 82, or 86. 89 after 88 wasn't likely, and 82 would have landed on 7/31 - done in 2020. 86 wouldn't really have been "bad" (7/26 was done in 2015), but nor was it really a compelling better option. And then, after 83, 89 should be the only real option if for no other reason than it would shut down 8/19 coming back yet again. (It would also shut down 8/7/82, though 83-82 is itself unlikely anyway.)

And besides, when exactly was the last time Nina missed a Big 40 show? Correct, it was a very subpar show, even by Casey lite's very low standards. It was nice not dealing w/Nina's blunders. But when you go 3-4 songs without a talk break and the display doesn't list what position they are on, it's like a trail without a map. Plus even though LVK luvvvs me some Moody Blues, 7 minutes of any song is too much of a good thing.

7/30/83 hasn't been heard for ten years, so good choice there and maybe, just maybe, it'll set us up for a new 1983 chart in October.
Meanwhile, it looks unlikely that the next 1988 show will be new. Best we can hope for is 9/24 or 10/1, and definitely not another repeat of 10/15.

At least Nina's absence also made the show go by a little quicker. Charts from around this time tend to run rather long thanks to lengthy songs.
It looks like the next possibility of a new chart will be 8/14/82?

I think 1989 is the longest show and each year earlier gets slightly shorter. Rare if ever for a 1989 show to be less than 3 hours!

Here they go again with the "no-nuttins'". They do realize they can use other number jingles besides the ones they usually use, right?

Figured as such, as the next two weeks for that particular year would have been terrible choices.
For the rest of the month, I'm going with 1982, 1986, and 1981, in that order.
