10 years since we would have heard Slipping Away by Dave Edmonds, since it was its only week on the Top 40.

10 years since we would have heard Slipping Away by Dave Edmonds, since it was its only week on the Top 40. I first heard it on an episode of Crap From the Past where Ron "Boogiemonster" Gerber played songs that spent just one week in the top 40, with Casey Kasem introducing them all. Apparently the rest of its parent album was terrible.

Sorry for not being clear--I meant the VJ Countdown since this was its only appearance on the July 30th Top 40. Apologies again!

I meant more in general than the countdown. I didn't even have SXM back then.

I had a feeling they would bump 1981 up. So my best guess is that 1982 will be in the last week then? Anyway there's a chance we'll get a new chart again next week too.

Really didn't see this one coming...but indeed, 8/15/81 will be new. And pushing 1982 to the end of the month works out just fine, as 8/28/82 would be new too. And it won't have to worry about Premiere interference, either, as they did that week last year. Actually - Premiere did 8/15/81, 8/16/86, and 8/28/82 all last year. I'd wager there's a pretty decent chance those three fill out the month of August on this side. At the very least, my bet is 86 is the most likely to slide inbetween 81 and 82, assuming 82 does close out the month. We're not likely to go three "new" weeks in a row, as the only years that could generate new charts that wouldn't be too close to 81 or 82 are 1987 or 88 - WAY too soon for 88 to come back, and I tend to doubt 87 would come back early again either. So I'd put 86 as the most likely to go there - though 8/16 has been done twice, those two were 2012-13. (If they did 8/23/86 - guest-hosted on the AT40 side - instead, that also has been done twice here, the second time being 2017.) As to when 87 does come back, assuming it's on time? Let's just say that is not a question you want answered...

Lined up with country artists, who are also crossover artists to rock charts: Kenny Rogers, Oak Ridge Boys (in the Top 5), Juice Newtown, Ronnie Milsap, John Schneider, Alabama and Eddie Rabbitt.

They're still continuing their trend of only waiting 7 weeks to do 1987, I see. Anywho, August 1987 as we all know is rarely touched upon so the chart will definitely be new.

At least we won't get any of the over-repeated September 1981 or 1987 charts.
The two years that stick out as currently in "drought" status are 1982, last played the first weekend of June, and 1985, last played the first weekend of May. We've heard 1981, 83, 86, and 89 twice and (unless they change next week's show) 1987 three times since they last did 1985.

Indeed 1982 is stuck in the drought position again, though next quite as bad as the last. It could be featured the week after (and it will be new I think). Even though I'm glad August 1987 is getting attention, this is the FIFTH time 1987 has been done this year. Meanwhile 1982 and 1984 have only been done TWICE. I don't get the 1987 favoritism, you know?

Some things:
Despite the extra 1987 attention, this will only be the second "new" chart from that year this year. And since 8/15/81 is this week, next week will be 8/22/87.
1982 really should follow after that, which will make three new charts in a row.
And since 1987 is in fact going inbetween - much to my surprise - that would bump 1986 to the first week of September, where guess what? That week would be new, too. (Whether they'd go with 8/30 or 9/6 would make no difference.)
