Yeah there goes hearing early 1984 for the first time in a while, especially when 81 and 87 were right there! Hopefully at least they'll do 1987 first and then 1981 at the beginning of the year. That's what I'm hoping for too, but given their picks for December I'm not very confident. This week, December 1989 becomes the fourth month of the decade from which the VJs have only played one chart but they've played it multiple times. The others are September 1984, January 1985 and June 1988. If it were up to me, the number of months with only one appearance would be zero a year from now.

December 31 at 12am and 6pm
January 1 at 11am and 7pm

The only January 1985 show I remember being played is 1/12/85, IIRC. It would be nice to get 1/19 or 1/26, as they haven't been played yet and wouldn't be too close to the December 1984 chart being used this weekend.

I only have 1/26 marked as being played, and that's been done three times (2014, 2019, 2020). Possible that 1/12 was done pre-2012 (or maybe even in January 2012)?

Maybe it was, or I have my January 1985 shows mixed up. In any case, by about mid-January 1985 should be due, and 1/12 or 1/19 would fit the bill of not being played in a long time if ever. 1/19 would be preferable as it would be a week further removed from this week's 1984 show and so would feel a bit less redundant, and we probably won't get Casey from the same week as that AT40 was a B this year.

And just when we thought they would avoid repeats, they pick something that already has been played numerous times like 1984 when they could have put a new show or replay something that was played a long time ago. To make matters worse, instead of just going back and replaying the chart from when it was originally broadcast (which should make sense), they put in new commentary which has been going for a number of years, let alone errors that still continue to persist.

As much as recent repeats annoy us to no end, at least recording new commentary gives us the occasional update about the artists or anything current, like Nina's mention of the Get Back documentary and Alan teasing next week's special. I just wish they do better if they need to do these repeats. I mean we already know "Run To You" is about infidelity and was originally meant for Blue Oyster Cult. I mean they should dig deeper.

Second repeat of exactly a year ago this month--first with 1986 first weekend of both 2020 and 2021, and 1984 Christmas weekend 2020/2021.

I just checked 80s on 8's website and it turns out that countdown actually premieres tomorrow morning at 11 AM central time. Here's what the rest of the schedule looks like: Thu 8 am Fri 5 pm Sat 10 am 4 pm 11 pm Sun 5 am 3 pm

They are sure using the countdown to 'plug holes' (allow the Relics to have some time off...) The countdown this week is Party Songs of the 80s, IIRC.

To be fair, last year the top 300 special they did also started the Wednesday after.
EDIT: For those who don't really like a certain super dirty song we heard just two weeks ago, you're in for a rude awakening.

Yes, I did hear part of the party songs countdown yesterday, so it must have started Wednesday?

I haven't heard the entire thing yet, but I do need to ask...
In what universe is The Boys Of Summer considered a party song?

I listened to the first airing on Wednesday and I was just as confused as you are when that song played. Plus there must have been a tie toward the middle of the show they never acknowledged? It made me lose count.
I'm listening to a repeat airing now and it looks like they omitted "Take Me Home Tonight", so I guess that takes care of that?
