I took a quick look at the list of possible songs for the party song countdown. The very first song listed is Hold On Loosely.
Because when I think of 80s party music, the first name that comes to mind is 38 Special...

A repeat from four years ago, but it sure beats getting 12/19/87 again. Now the question remains whether 81 or 87 will be relegated to the beginning of the year.

Since 1987 is the year longest without play, that should be likely on 12-24-21. 1988 wouldn't be likely to start 2022 since it was played on 1-8-21.
If 1981 is played, it is also unlikely 1982 would be played in early January, since that is featured this weekend.
If 1987 starts 2022, it would be only five weeks to hear the songs played last weekend from 1986 (35 year ago in both cases).

Next week should likely be December 16, 1989; a repeat, but from a month we've rarely heard at all so I wouldn't complain. At least this means we probably won't get January 1989 for the umpteenth time, some of which have been shortly after hearing very similar shows covering December 1988.
A Christmas weekend 1987 show would presumably be 12/26/87. Ironically if we get 1981 in either December or early January it'll be soon after we get a Casey Premiere countdown with most of the same songs either way, with December 1981 airing this weekend and December 1980 next.
And I'm not sure that there'll be a regular Big 40 countdown at all over New Year's weekend, with the Top Party Songs (as voted by listeners) special.

Oh goodie, another opportunity to hear 2 Live Crew...
I personally would prefer to hear 1981 over Christmas and 1987 after New Years, since both of those would be new chart. Yes, I realize that would give us December 1986 and January 1987, but you can't have everything. The first week of 1981 was just done two years ago.
I would also accept 1984 for the first week of the year. So any of the following combinations would work for me, factoring in a week off for the New Years special. 87-84-81, 81-84-87 or 81-87-84.

Oh goodie, another opportunity to hear 2 Live Crew... Thus far, only 2015 has left them on the shelf for the season (the last 1989 that year was 10/7, then the year didn't return until the start of 2016, for the first redux of 1/7).

Oh goodie, another opportunity to hear 2 Live Crew... And unlike The Fox, they don't put funny movie clips before the song. But as much as I want to hear Austin Powers, it obviously wouldn't fit the 80s format.

Is it just me or does it sound like they edited out Nina's pauses? Her intros sounded a little too quick for me.

Oh FFS. Welcome the newest member of the Four Times Played Club, a member for who this will make three of the last four years that they've shown up. As well, 1984 coming back early should have been THIS week, not next. And before anyone chimes in with this averting a December 87-January 88 scenario: In its place, we now get a good possibility of a December 84-January 85, with likely a narrow time gap inbetween. Either that or 85 gets punted into a pool of already-done weeks...again. Plus, December 86-January 87 is still on the table, if not all the more likely now since 87 is way overdue (but at least that SHOULD mean 88 won't end up going first in 2022).

Yeah there goes hearing early 1984 for the first time in a while, especially when 81 and 87 were right there! Hopefully at least they'll do 1987 first and then 1981 at the beginning of the year.

I think most of us are stunned to say the least! 1981 would have been a viable year to go with since 1982 was played recently and not likely for January 2022. That makes twice this month that the years were duplicated exactly a year apart--1986 (12-3-21 and 12-4-20) & 1984 (12-24-21 and 12-25-20).
