Ugh why couldn't they have waited a week? They were doing so well with the chart selections. Also I hope this doesn't mean that we'll be having 1986 again at the beginning of December.
One of the only ideal December lineups I can think of now is 87-89-81-86. Or else we're stuck with almost the same schedule as last December, with the exception of 1989.

Also I hope this doesn't mean that we'll be having 1986 again at the beginning of December. Cynically, I can't help but think we should just pencil that in right now. Which would mean yes, we'd be getting back to back FOUR time plays, which in turn means we're swinging from a pretty high period for them to a brand new low - not helped by this being the third time in the past four years for 83. Perhaps worst of all: For 1983, this period has 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, and 12/10 all unplayed, while 1986 has 11/8, 11/15, 11/22, and 12/13 all unplayed, and 11/29 with just one play.

Well, we at least seem on track to quite possibly hear something from December 1989 (10/14 was the last show from that year), a month we rarely get.

As I thought they would, they're going with 11/22. Glad they didn't utilize the incorrect date on the Ultimate Music Database.

I don't think they would wait until December 24th for 1986, but it is ridiculous to repeat 1986 on 12-3-21, since we had that on 12-4-20. We had 1981 on 12-11-20, and 1987 on 12-18-20. At least we won't have 1984 as we had on 12-25-20, and that should be 1989 on 12-24-21.

As much as I'd prefer a new 1987 chart in December, at this point I'd be okay with 12/5/87 (not aired since 2013) if it means 1986 gets delayed a bit. I'm also beginning to worry that if there's even the slightest delay with 1989, we could be in for a 53rd airing of 1/7/89 in the near future.

Is it likely that the VJ Countdown will be prior to Friday, 9 p.m.? Last year it started on Thanksgiving Day, and in 2019 it actually started on Wednesday. I just checked the 80's on 8 Schedule, and it just shows the regular programming, mostly with the three VJs.
Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving to all posters!

Yes, it first aired that morning and was played a couple more times before they got to the regular schedule, so it seems like it'll be the same this time around.
Listening to this week's show though it sounded like they had to rip a couple of the songs from outside sources. You could hear some Windows XP-era clicking on "This Time" and some weird chime at the end of "Deep Inside My Heart". Then again they were kind of obscure songs to begin with.

If we do get January 1989 again, then hopefully it won't be just a few weeks after a December 1988 show, which has happened before.

If we do get January 1989 again, then hopefully it won't be just a few weeks after a December 1988 show, which has happened before. December 1988 is unlikely, as we just had 11/5/88. I'm hoping that means either 1/23/88 or 1/30/88 is upcoming.

Almost assured December will yield 1986, 1981, 1987 and 1989 countdowns (not sure in that order). If no special on 12-31-21, then guessing 1982 would be up in rotation. Stay tuned...and nothing yet on an early 1983 Countdown. 80's on 8 Schedule lists just the VJs. For any 60's fans, Channel 73 is featuring the Top 300 Autumn Songs Saturday.

If no special on 12-31-21, then guessing 1982 would be up in rotation. One issue with that: 1982 would have possibly the most conflicting calendar for that date, as, as far as chart weeks go, the year ends on 12/25. 1/2, at the beginning point, would technically consist of a frozen chart week using 12/26/81, not to mention being off-month (if easily closer date-wise) - but that would be its own inconvenience if it came up alongside a December 1981. So, I'd say either a different year would be likely, with 1982 either coming back early or getting bumped to January, or there'll be a special come New Year's. As it stands, in the time of Big 40, we haven't yet had a present-day calendar where December 31 was a Friday - at least, not since they've gone Billboard-only. The closest was in 2016, with the last Friday being December 30 - and what do you know, 12/25/82 would be 2016's last chart played. Still, I don't see them duplicating that again for an airing week beginning December 31. As to whether or not we'll get a special? I'd say we're due for one, as we're now at a point of them not having done one for the longest. The longest gaps between specials have been: 2012-14 - Back to back specials to end 2012, and then not again until Memorial Day Weekend 2014 2015-16 - 2015 began with one, and then not again until Memorial Day Weekend 2016 2017-18 - 2017 had one halfway through the year, and then not again until 2018 ended with one There hasn't been one since Memorial Day Weekend 2020 - one coming up to end 2021 would be one month longer than the previous longest gap (2017-18).

It was just announced by Alan Hunter that the VJ Countdown would air earlier than normal--9 am and 3 pm Friday, the 26th. This was right after he played "Tusk" which was a 1979 hit, but #99 on the Hot 100 the first week of January 1980. Do we let him slide on that?

I don't even get why they have "Tusk" as a lost hit, but then again they do also play "Cruel To Be Kind", which also came out in 1979. If it were "Sara", it would make more sense.
So I'm guessing no early airings today. Are those eastern or central times, by the way?
