Same thing is true when "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is played. Come on VJs, the song was huge, but it could be the longer version!

Same thing is true when "Total Eclipse of the Heart" is played. Come on VJs, the song was huge, but it could be the longer version! Or another fall 1983 hit, Spandau Ballet's "True", where the ending is rather abruptly edited in this show's airings. Yet assuming we get a chart from November or December 1983 we'll probably hear six or seven minutes of Irene Cara's "Why Me?", a decent song but one for which four minutes will do.

Downtown Life becomes the latest song to be played on the countdown for the first time ever. In fact, they've done an admirable job with 1988 the past few years. Different charts from 10/22 through 11/26 have been played each of the past three years, while that range was never touched prior to 2019.
And just to give an idea how bad their selections have been in the past, I'm now realizing that if you look at the weeks ranging from the last week of October through the second week of November, no charts from 1985 or 1988 have been played until this year. Even if you chose the years each week by throwing darts, it would be hard to keep that streak going for nine years!

Even if you chose the years each week by throwing darts, it would be hard to keep that streak going for nine years! All made possible by nearly polar-opposite dynamics: In contrast to the complete drought for 1988 prior to 2019, for 1985 this is the fifth consecutive year to have a November chart - and the last two of those were both 11/16. Speaking of which, let's hope they don't decide to swerve us next weekend and serve up that week yet again.

It should be 11-9-85, since that is the closest date to 11-12.

Another year where it can go either way, the 15th or 22nd. More than likely the latter because it's the closest to the actual date.

Which would be better, as while both have previously aired just once apiece, 11/22 was in 2013, while 11/15 was in 2018. Plus there's the additional week of separation, chart-wise, from what Premiere aired last weekend. Worth also noting: It would also produce the second two-week separation between chart dates this year - the previous was the last time 1980 and 1985 aired back to back, which was right at the midpoint of this year (6/22/85, then 7/5/80), though it's more clearly noticeable this time since both dates would be in the same month. In looking over the past listings, this sort of thing doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it always involves two years that line up funny against a given year's slate of Fridays - as both 1980 and 1985 do this year.

Well so far I got 3/3 correct (post of 10-25-21). I predicted 1986 after 1980, so can I make it 4/4?

As far as next weekend's chart goes, the Ultimate Music Database lists what is supposed to be 10-22-80 as 10-23-80, and 10-15-80 as 10-16-80. This may affect which charts get used on 11-19-21. I think we know that sometimes the VJs don't use great calendar skills.

1983 is one of the few years that has been played the most this year (5x), so yes, I am in favor of waiting until December.

As I thought they would, they're going with 11/22.
