If I counted correctly (challenge most welcome), we will hear 33 of the same songs we did on the 12-19-87 chart featured 12-18-20.

I will listen as always even though this doesn't make much sense. Actually? For Big 40, it makes perfect sense. They have absolutely no handle on how to space out calendars properly around the turn of the year. There's not one single year where they haven't played a chart in December, and then followed up with a chart that would be from just 5 weeks or less later, in January - and this goes all the way back to 2012-13 (the first "holiday season" of the Billboard-only years).

The only upside is that we won't have to worry about 2/20 again. I might not listen considering they just played most of these songs 3 weeks ago. I'm still hoping 1983 will be the next week.
At least this is probably the earliest they've ever done 1988, and it looks like this is the only week "Just Like Heaven" was on the chart.

Whoever plans the schedule Must be the same person that fact checks the show before airing! They don't spend 5 minutes prep because SXM knows 99% of their listeners don't care and/or don't listen closely enough to notice. That's why Mark's mic still sounds like crap after 10 months.

Is the BITDR going to feature 1998 this week so we'll have both versions of "Candle In The Wind" again?

As if it's not enough to hear 12-19-87, and then three weeks later 1-9-88, some of the songs were played on the Top 300 Countdown Wednesday thru Sunday, namely Animal, Is This Love, The Way You Make Me Feel, Need You Tonight, Heaven Is A Place on Earth and Faith.

Leave it to SiriusXM. Even when they do something right, they screw it up. I've been waiting for January 1988 for years, especially now that it's the only unplayed month of the decade. So of course, they pull the stupidest December/January pairing since 2014. But as noted, we'll hear Just Like Heaven, yet another song that's never been played on the countdown (although it does get played often throughout the week.)
There's one more reason to be annoyed that 1988 came up so early. In looking at when that year might play next, I see a cluster of three never-played charts in March/April. If they wait the standard ten weeks to play 1988 next, we will miss that cluster by one week. So let's hope they wait 11-13 weeks to play it again.
Also, I continue to hope for 1983 next. 1/22/83 is the only January chart ever featured, so it will be aggravating if it comes up again.

Looks like me and Michael are rejoicing, because 1983 is next week!

Is the BITDR going to feature 1998 this week so we'll have both versions of "Candle In The Wind" again? Oh my God I was right. Yup, neither channel seems to grasp the concept of the year change. At least with 1988 we got a new chart. The 1998 chart was played twice already, including two years ago. Happy to see that 1983 is next. It's another year that's heavily underplayed this month (not to mention from my favorite period of the decade). Below is a list of what I'd like to see played after 1983, in the order listed: 1980 (would be the same chart as this week's Premiere show, but new to the VJs) 1982 or 1989 1985 1982 or 1989

1980 (would be the same chart as this week's Premiere show, but new to the VJs) Of note: Even without excluding recently-played years, the pickings for "new" charts were rather slim for what would go there - the only choices would be 1/19/80, 1/19/85, and 1/23/88. With 88 being done this weekend, just the first two remain.

My other reasons for picking 1980 for that week are that it's the last chance until later in February to hear a "new" 1980 chart and to give us space between December 1984 and January 1985.

They played AT40 from 12/10/77 last month and 1/8/77 this weekend: technically the same calendar year, but two different ends of it. And they haven't done 1976 in two months (since mid-November) so not too many songs were repeated.
