I'm pretty sure it's an error considering next week will have that top 300 countdown, but they played a promo saying 1984 was again next week. Unless however for the first regular show they're doing the first week of 1984. Sure it's just an error though.

That would be a first for them to be attentive to how the years/charts wrap around the turn of the year like so, unless you count the 1985/86 debacle at the beginning of 2014 that saw 12/28/85 aired back-to-back with 1/11/86. This would actually be a responsible way to do it though, assuming that is in fact NOT an error.
As a bonus, 1/7/84 would also be a chart that hasn't yet aired.

I can kind of envision the three saying to each other "didn't we just do 1984?" They just wouldn't realize that the songs were from 36 years ago in December, and in January 1984 would be 37 years ago!

I listened again, and that bumper was actually cut off to play one for the top 300 countdown, so yeah more than likely an error.

As long as it's a chart year that was played in November (with possible overlap year), I will be happy.

Keep in mind that 1982 and 1985 are possibilities from that group, both of which would yield fairly short time jumps from December charts that were played (especially true for the latter).

Have they put "Just Like Heaven" in a special? No, the one week that was in the top 40 has never been played, and isn't like to turn up in 2021 either. 1982, 1987 and 1989 have all been heavily featured in January so it would be nice to not see any of those years until February. I'm still not sure what the ideal order for January shows should be, but I still hope for an early-month 1983 show and a late-month 1988 show.

It would only be six weeks from the 12-19-87 to late January (1-29-21), with roughly half the songs we heard last weekend.

I'm still not sure what the ideal order for January shows should be, but I still hope for an early-month 1983 show and a late-month 1988 show. With those two, plus 1980 and 1985 possibly favored to come up in January* and each year having plenty of room to have a given week's chart air for the first time, I figure it's not worth trying to pin down a specific order. (Well, that and my past attempts to come up with an order have failed miserably. ) *Well, maybe 1985 could wait till February so we don't get 12/22/84 followed by 1/26/85 for a third time in sequence, but if January 85 were to happen, only 1/26 has already been done.

Whoever plans the schedule keeps shooting themselves in the foot. As we've noted, 1985 and 1988 are well underplayed in January and yet we got 1984 and 1987 in December, which either means both years will once again be avoided in January or we'll have heavy overlap with the songs. And yet, both 1984 and 1987 had their schedules messed with during the fall. 1984 should have come up in September but waited until October, while 1987 was due in early October but was played in mid-October. The December/January conflict could have been avoided otherwise.

Whoever plans the schedule Oh har har har. I still feel that 1983 will be first up for 2021 as that hasn't been done since the end of October, unless of course that error I mentioned turns out not to be one at all.

With the top 300 countdowns over and done with, hopefully soon we'll find out what year they'll be doing this coming weekend.

Wow we hoped it would be late January at the earliest--oh well to listen or not--that is the question! I will listen as always even though this doesn't make much sense. Anxiously awaiting Laura's reaction.
