Guys, I just received a very nice email and reply from John Clay, program director for the 70s on 7 at XM, and he made it absolutely clear that both the 70s and 80s channels will be running AT40 twice a week on their respective channels. I've always emphasized that when you write these guys to be polite, straightforward and positive as much as possible. Just like we wouldn't want to be blasted with negative email, attacks, etc. they don't really relish it either. They're doing they're best, they're committed to the show for substantial period of time (I'm not specifying the contract length as that may be confidential information) and they want it to be as much a success as all of you do. I realize a lot of you were disappointed this week when a date did not air. However, as a result, there's a lot of erroneous information now circulating on several message board. Please help post the facts when you post and stick to them. As far as schedule, the 80's channel will air on Sundays and Thursdays and the 70s on Wednesday and Saturdays. If you have questions, feel free to email me and I'll see what I can find out for you. We have something good going here and we need to support it in a positive way. Also, I don't think this is letting the cat out much, but airing will take on the format soon of September shows airing in September, October shows in October, etc. As Casey says, 'Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.' Thanks for the good news, Shannon!
As far as "helping to post the facts" though, did John Clay give you any reason for AT40 not airing this past Thursday night? It's hard to stop the erroneous information if we don't have the real story to counter with.

Unfortunately, it was just a simple oversight. There was no thought of not airing it twice weekly or any remote thought of even removing it on the heels of the overwhelming positive feedback and response generated.
The air times have not changed from what I've heard. Wed night and Sat for 70s and Thurs night and Sun for 80s.
I'm sure John Clay, 70s director, would love to hear from you. seventies@xmradio.com. He's replied to EVERY email I've sent him. Now...he might take a day or so to reply, but he will reply.

Here's the official airing schedule:
Casey Kasem American Top 40 70s - XM 7 & 80s - XM 8 70s every Sat. at Noon ET and Weds. 10PM ET 80s every Sun. at 10AM ET and Thurs. 10PM ET
Do you remember waking up and knowing it was Sunday morning because you would roll over, push the on button on your radio and there was Casey Kasem saying; "Now, on with the countdown". Where was your favorite song going to end up? Did Madonna make it to number one again? Casey Kasem's American Top 40, all the original countdowns from the 70s and 80s return to the air on XM, only this time with no commercials. "Keep Your Feet on the Ground and Keep Reaching For the Stars".

Their website still says noon start times for the Sunday airings, so if we get it today, it'll probably be at noon.

Sade (pronounced shah-day) just had her name mispronounced. Wonder how many times all the various countdown hosts did that. Reminds me of Casey pronouncing the "G" in Natalie Imbruglia's name until they finally corrected it when she hit #1.

If there was on criticism I have/had of Casey (and, believe me, its only one) its that it always seemed to me - even when I was a kid - that he knew nothing about the music and probably hasnt ever heard 99% of the songs he's introducing. The only advantage Seacrest has over Casey and Shadoe is that he genuinely seems like a fan of the music and artists... and has heard most of the songs before.
Thats why the oldies syndicatd shows (Steve Goddard, MG Kelly, Nina Blackwood, Dick Bartley, etc) work so well to me... they seem like they are truly fans of the music they are playing.
just my two cents.... shawn

I think as the years wore on and musical styles kept changing that Casey would probably admit that he didn't listen to much of anything on the charts. But he seemed genuinely excited when he was doing a special show that featured 50's and 60's songs. I guess we're all guilty of disproportionately loving the music of our younger days as compared to the music of later eras. I know I do.
