When Smooth Operator came out, I was working at a college radio station in Greensboro NC. The first time i played that song I said "That was Smooth Operator by Sade (rhymes with jade)." Then i was told it was pronounced Sa-day, and then Sha-day. So I guess Casey and I have that in common lol.

Hers is probably the most often mispronounced name I can think of. It certainly wasn't only Casey that made the mistake.

The thing is... Im not so sure it happened "as the years wore on." I could be wrong, but I think he knew very little about the new music and new artists that came out in 1970. Again, Im a huge Casey fan and obviously enough of a fan to be here, but thats my only complaint... and Ill be honest, its a small one.

I don't know, he seemed really enthused during the first show, which was taped in "real time". I don't own any other 1970 shows, so I can't comment on them. I'll still take his voice and storytelling abilities of anyone else any day of the week.

Agreed there. There have been a lot of legends in radio over the years, but Id still take Casey over any of them also.

By the way, they need to oil those doors on the AT40 Hall of Fame! Liked the echo effect, though.

June 22, 1985 for those following on their scorecards I've been trying to guess what is going to be #1 but I just can't remember. It was right after I graduated from high school

Casey related the story of how close to death Bryan Adams came because of a skydiving mishap. Just think how close we came to being spared "Everything I Do" and "Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman".

Agreed there. There have been a lot of legends in radio over the years, but Id still take Casey over any of them also. It was in the 80's he no longer paid much attention to the music, that's one of the main reasons he ended up in the dead dog tirade. The pictures he wanted to see were of todays artist's which he had no real idea about because he felt he was losing touch with the music.

FYI,
Rick Stacy did send me an email about the airing of AT40 on XM8 stating, "Thanks for your e-mail. We apologize for the missing show Thursday. I will look into what happened and the show will run regularly on Sundays at 12 noon eastern and Thursdays at 7p eastern. We'll make sure there is no further mistaken information pertaining to Casey."
I guess no more shows will be skipped. I was surprised on a repsonse and the positive tone of the email. GOOD NEWS!!

Our prom theme in 1984 was a "Night In Heaven" and was the song went to #1 on WLOL-FM/Minneapolis-St. Paul Hot Hits Countdown. Then, 1985 it went national & I was thinking isn't enuff z enuff.

If you listen to some of the 70s countdowns, Casey seems to have enthusiasm for certain artists like Helen Reddy and Barry Manilow. Just what you'd expect someone then in his mid 40s to like. After all, he's four months younger than my dad. My parents taste in music in the 70s: Pretty much like Caseys.
Another story, remember seeing him in the Summer of 1983 on a talk show and the host asked him, "what's a hot song this Summer, Casey". Casey seemed to be taken a little off guard by the question. After all, this was 1983 and there were many new and unfamilar acts hitting the chart thanks to MTV and the "Second British Revolution". Casey went with the safe answer: Elton John. However, it mangled the song title calling it "I'm Standing Still" rather than "I'm Still Standing".
