This was typically done because people didn’t know the actual title. Rupert Homes “Escape” later became “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” or Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” became “Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win)”.

1979 should be featured this weekend. That year hasn't played as a regular countdown (not including the Disco Special) since June 8th. My special thanks to skuncle for keeping track of all the shows in this thread, so I was able to use his posts for finding the last 1979 show.

1976 was the year that I became a regular listener to AT40 and this show really brings back the memories--1)becoming obsessed with the charts, 2)getting to hear songs that might've not been big hits in the Atlanta area, 3)seeing how a song was doing nationally that were being played and enjoyed locally & 4) listening to AT40 when the show was probably the most professionally done show on radio.
It helped me as a 15 year old to really know that I wanted to be the next Casey and helped solidify that dream of becoming a professional DJ.
In closing, let me say 'thank you' to everyone on this board for helping me to realize that dream, even if it took 40 years to achieve.

As I mentioned recently, 1979 was last played on 6-8-24. 1971 was also in June, so one should be tomorrow and hopefully the other next Saturday.
