A special countdown sounds appropriate-Hope they consider it.

I'd like to see Premiere have the last show be available to anyone on this forum via their FTP site a user/special password. or links off their main page.
Westwood One did this a few years ago with some of their shows after the passing of George Harrison, and while I will nowhere compare the two events, and wish Casey well in his retirement, This is still a significant event in the history of Commerical Radio in the US and worldwide. I'd hate to have to fight to pull in an internet stream to hear this.
This is not a "pass the torch" thing that was done with seacrest. I can understand why it was downplayed. The kids are there for the music. A polite acknowledgement and move on. This is the production shutdown of the show. Let's hope it's celebrated properly.
Anyone who has spent time in the industry anywhere in the world likely has heard his name, if not actually hearing the show. He's a pop culture icon. let the fans celebrate with someone they can listen to again and again on their ipods.

^ Well if not, I'll certainly record the show. You could grab it from me. I'm sure others will as well.

I'd appreciate that.....maybe a thread to trade it both AT20 and AT10 once they air. I found a few stations online where the quality is OK, not great, but it's there where I caught AT10 this afternoon using total recorder....a good test run....will try AT20 next week off another stream which is decent quality....
no one I know who works production at a station up here in canada is running AT 10 or 20, so it's a bit difficult for me to get my hands on original mp3s or CDs....dang it.

Even though this weekend's shows were just like any other, it's kind of upsetting to listen knowing that it's almost time.
As for the last shows, my guess is that they will be absolutely no different than any others. The average listener probably wont have any idea. My guess is the only difference in the entire show will be Casey will not give Question/LDD contact information at the end and, just like in 1988 and 2004, will rephrase his sign off in a way that does not say "Join Me Next Week".
As much as we'd love a special final show, my guess is this is what we will get. Hope I'm wrong though. The last shows record in 2 days.

Brett, please let us know if there are LDD's scheduled for the final two weeks or not. Somehow, I would doubt it but it would be interesting if Scott sent in the final LDD that Casey Kasem ever read.

I wouldn't expect anything different from Premiere.

My guess is that AT20 will be no different as well. However, it would not surprise me if Casey gives thanks or says goodbye at the end provided he believes this is his final show ever.
On the other hand if he says nothing unusual, it would seem to me that he believes that he will be on-air again somewhere and/or believes AT10 and/or AT20 will be resurrected sometime in the future. Whatever happens, at least we know Casey will be professional about the situation. Some unnamed host in a similar situation might alter the countdown and insert something like "Disco Duck" at #1.

Brett, please let us know if there are LDD's scheduled for the final two weeks or not. Somehow, I would doubt it but it would be interesting if Scott sent in the final LDD that Casey Kasem ever read. I'd admittedly hoped that, but my "place" in Casey history (and BOY does that over-emphasize my importance, which I don't mean to do) was and is having the last QL Casey read on AT40. My LDD wasn't the last. There's one on this coming weekend's show. And for what it's worth, and maybe it's just that I'm listening to the show differently now that I know it's almost over, but for some reason Casey just sounded extra-good to me on this past weekend's shows. Not that he's sounded bad recently, but he just I thought sounded particularly good this past weekend. But like I said, it's probably just knowing that the end is looming that's driving that. And while I don't have 100% confirmation on this, I believe everything technically ends TODAY in that the final shows are being done today (I know they were usually done on a Wednesday, but I believe the final shows are being done today, Tuesday). But regardless, whether it's today or tomorrow, this is the week that Casey sits behind the microphone for the last time. Wow. Happy retirement, Casey...and thanks for all the great listening over the years! You'll be missed.

I agree with you on that Scott, I also liked the past weekend shows very much and even though it well might be of what you've said about knowing about the end, I guess it really sounded as "we know, so we don't have to worry that much about whether we do upset our affiliates with something on the show or not, thus being at more ease when taping the show"... and I guess you could also heard it with a nice variety of different hits from different decades again, and I guess I heard some of them very rarely, if ever, on AT20 before, such as "No More I Love You's" by Annie Lennox or "Always On My Mind" by the Pet Shop Boys.
Moreover, it was great that the chart refreshed quicker than recently with 3 big debuts. By the way, what was the last time on AT20 that the show had 3 debuts (I mean completely new ones, no re-entries included)?

While I don't know what the chart is, if the # 1 song is still "Second Chance", I feel that will be a very interesting song as Casey's last number one. The final lyrics "Sometimes Goodbye Is a Second Chance....." will be an eerie way to wrap up 39 years.

The last number one song on AT10 will be Taylor Swift's "Love Story". Miley Cyrus' "The Climb" will move to #2 narrowly missing the top spot.

Now, here are the comments from Casey Kasem: "Hosting various versions of my countdown program has kept me extremely busy, and I loved every minute of it," said Kasem in a statement. "However, this decision will free up time I need to focus on myriad other projects." (Radio Online, June 24, 2009) news.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n19407

Even though I'm gonna miss all those weekends with music and stories behind the hits, I'm glad to hear he did it his way... and despite I would love to see him counting them down for full 40 years, only great people know how to step out from things when you are at the top and will be missed rather than being swept away by no interest of new generations.
I'll tip my hat to Casey for all what he's done and including the professional way he's gonna wrap it up on July 4, 2009.
Keep reaching for the stars...

The final lyrics "Sometimes Goodbye Is a Second Chance....." will be an eerie way to wrap up 39 years. Interestingly, the last song ever spun by Casey on AT40 was "When I'm Gone" by 3 Doors Down--the #1 song on AT40's 2003 year end countdown.
