Maybe, he will introduce "The 70's" and "The 80's" shows himself, after July 4'th... just like he used to do with the Flashback series: "Back to this week in 197-something with _me_, Casey Kasem" Would be appreciated...

Even though "AT20" will be signing off next month, you can still find the Mediabase listings each Tuesday in the Life section of USA Today.

With the way music has been in the 2000's, I'm surprised Casey held on as long as he did. At 75, he's 10-15 years past most people's retirement age and really cannot relate to today's music. His voice has been strained for a while and it is almost painfully sad to hear him with all the respect and love we have for him.
As far as the future of chart music, that's a tough one. Nobody, back in the 70's and 80's could ever envision a time where music charts would become almost obsolete. Unfortunately, unless things change drastically, the charts themselves will.
The way Randy Jackson does it is the right way. He has two charts-urban and pop/rock. The pop/rock is essentially a HOT AC chart but has a twinge of CHR. CHR is the chart that is becoming more and more obsolute and unneeded. More music from the CHR is being brought into either the HOT AC (artists like Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga) and the other more hardcore rap/urban is being transported into the URBAN chart.
If radio programmers can push newer music and get that music listed quicker, there is hope for the music chart and thus the music countdown. Music will never die, but the way it is marketed can have a profound affect on the charts and the excitement for it. Lately, there has been more music entering the HOT AC chart. Albeit much sounds the same, the volume is increasing which is a potentially great sign.

A kind of uplifting yet "too little too late" moment was when Casey welcomed a new affiliate to the show this weekend.

That also happened on "AT10" this weekend.

What I don't understand is that on this week's edition of AT20 Casey announced a new member to the AT20 family Star 107.7 FM in Jackson, Texas. Did they get aboard for just few weeks? And there was a new AT10 station as well this weekend...

Premiere's website still lists "AT20" as being available to Hot AC stations-I couldn't find any news item stating that the show was being discontinued.

They probably won't say anything about the end of AT20 or AT10 until the last week of broadcast (like they did when Classic AT40 ended in Jan 1995) if even then (they said nothing on the last Westwood One show in March 1998).

Of course, Casey tapes AT10/AT20 1 1/2 weeks prior to air. The June 6-7 show was taped on May 27th. The June 13-14 show was taped on June 3rd. Since the announcement of AT10/AT20 ending was not made until June 4th, you won't hear any hints the show is ending until the June 20-21 show, if the show ending is mentioned.
At least the new affiliates have one station mention for their brief Casey runs.

Can we write or e-mail a special thank you note to Casey for 39 years of counting down the hits?

The fact that an unidentified substitute announcer was brought in for the June 6-7 AT40/The 70s tells me that Mike Kasem might be filling in on the June 13-14 shows. It just seems to me that the bad news reached Casey while he was taping on the 3rd, and it got to be too much for him.

Yeah, I noticed that when several big CHR songs kept holding on even though they had long since left the Hot AC chart. The one that stands out in mind is "Leavin'" by Jesse McCartney. Still, it's a great show and would be perfect for most Hot AC stations.

I guess they tape both shows on Wednesday, so hopefully this wasn't the case.

Sure enough, Mike Kasem will be hosting this coming weekend, June 13/14 on AT20 and AT10. I guess we have only 3 more Casey hosted shows, if that.

Only 3 shows, including this weekend's show, are remaining. So, let's enjoy all of them. Does anybody have any information regarding the final show for July 4-5 weekend? Will any special countdown, such as "the biggest hits of the decade so far", be produced for the grand finale?
